On November 12, 2023 an alleged Israeli airstrike hit the home of the al-Zaghabi family, close to the European Gaza Hospital, east Khan Younis, killing at least two civilians and injuring several others.
At 2:58 PM, Shehab Agency reported the arrival of deaths and injuries to the European Hospital after the bombing of the al-Zaghabi family house.
Social media sources helped Airwars to identify the name of one of the victim, a 15-year-old child named Othman Iyad al-Zaghbi, In the image posted on Facebook by EuropeanARea, he poses for the camera with a serious expression and his hands in the pockets, wearing a red t-shirt.
Airwars found the name of one civilian killed, though some sources said that there were “a number of ” victims; Facebook accounts of Fatah Media and Culture Commission, Wattannew and Voice of Palestine Radio, said that two civilians were killed.
Describing the wounded, the majority of sources, such as @ShehabAgency and MsdrNews affirmed that a “number of” injuries arrived at the hospital.
According to Lega’a Al-Saadi’s post on Facebook, the attack started in the morning, and continued all day, resulting in the bombing of at least seven houses in Khan Younis. The post was accompanied by an image of the explosion during a sunny day. Thick smoke in shades of grey, brown and black rises sharply, swirling upward and cutting through the bright blue backdrop, as a stark contrast between peace and destruction.
Other images circulating online showed the aftermath of the incident, both inside and outside the house. Nothing remained inside but shattered furniture, scattered belongings and piles of rubble. The house was not completely destroyed, but was severely damaged and apparently not suitable for living anymore.
Othman’s full name has been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the second ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on October 26, 2023.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
