Airwars Assessment
Two people, Hajar Mahmoud Abu al-Jubain “Umm Bilal” and her son 20-year-old Abdul Malik (Jihad) Osama Abu al-Jubain, were reportedly killed and others were injured by an alleged Israeli bombardment on 17 December 2024 when their house, next to Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, was bombed.
Four other members of the family – Hajar’s other sons Mahmoud, Yahya, and Bilal, and her grandson Osama – had previously been reportedly killed by the Israeli military in other incidents since October 2023. In a mourning post on Facebook, Shimaa Abo al-Jabeen bid farewell to their aunt, Umm Bilal Abu al-Jubain, describing her as “the kind one.” They recount the deep sorrow she endured: “She could not bear to be separated from them nor could she leave her place and be displaced to Gaza [City] and remained steadfast in the north and after a few days of bombing, she and her fourth son were martyred”.
Shimaa Abo al-Jabeen stated in their post that while relatives were attempting to bury Umm Bilal and her son at Kamal Adwan Hospital, an Israeli strike hit the funeral procession, killing two more young men – her brother’s sons (incident assessed separately in ISPT171224f – forthcoming). Multiple local media sources, including Quds News Network, Al-Quds Today, Palestine Today, Jaffa News Network, Palestine Online (the digital platform of the Palestine Today newspaper), Qadeyah1 media platform, and Tufan Al-Aqsa reported the incident around 11:30 a.m. stating “Martyrs and wounded as a result of the [Israeli] bombing of a house belonging to the Abu al-Jabin family next to Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip”.
Several family members and friends mourned the victims through different posts on X and Facebook. @saeedziad posted a video of a woman crying and mourning the bodies of her relatives, and identified her as the sister of Hajar and the aunt of Jihad.
