Shortly before 3:00pm on Friday November 10th, 2023 one person was killed and at least 20 others, including many children, were injured when alleged Israeli snipers opened fire on Al-Quds Hospital, in the Tel-al Hawa Neighbourhood, west of Gaza. Medical staff, patients and more than 14,000 displaced people were reportedly sheltering in Al-Quds Hospital, when it was hit by sniper fire and nearby shelling. At least two people were reportedly left in critical condition. The deceased victim was not publicly identified.

The Hamas-affiliated Shehab Agency reported the incident on its Twitter/X account at 3:11 PM, marking it as “urgent information.” Several other news agencies also reported on the incident repeating the statement made by the Red Crescent, that reported “one [death] and 20 injured” as a result of Israeli “sniper fire” which hit Al-Quds Hospital in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, west of Gaza. Posting on Twitter Alaraby TV reported “violent clashes” and many “snipers” firing at Al-Quds Hospital in Tel al-Hawa.

The Egyptian Red Crescent, posting on Facebook, reported that an additional 8 people were injured. As such the total casualties have been recorded as one death and 28 injuries. They reported that most of the injured were children. Several social media users similarly reported a further 8 injuries. Facebook user, jameiat alhilal al’ahmar alfilastinii – qitae ghaza, repeated the claim that “the majority”  of the victims were children. He also reported that two of the injuries were “in critical condition” after Israeli snipers fired “inside the building” and additional “shrapnel from artillery shells” hit the hospital from the west.

Rassd News Network, quoting a statement made by the Red Crescent, reported that the Al-Quds Hospital housed medical staff, patients and more than “14,000 displaced people”, many of whom were injured. In a video shared on Facebook by Al Arabyia, Palestinian Red Crescent media officer Nibal Farsakh appeared in a video – speaking toward the camera she reports on the incident. The comment read, “Palestinian Red Crescent media officer Nibal Farsakh said: The hospital is completely surrounded and the intensive care unit was targeted. #AlArabiya”.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the incident to Israeli Forces.
