On December 17, 2024, two civilians were reportedly killed in an alleged Israeli strike near Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip. The victims were identified as Mahmoud Jihad Abu al-Jubain and his cousin Baraa Abdul Rahman Abu al-Jubain, who were killed in front of the hospital gate while attending a funeral for their aunt and cousin, who had been killed shortly before (assessed separately in ISPT171224ea).

News of their deaths was shared by family members and various media outlets. Baraa Abdul Rahman Abu al-Jubain’s cousin, Anas Saeed, shared the news and stated that Baraa Abdul Rahman Abu al-Jubain’s cousin, Mahmoud Jihad Abu al-Jubain, was also killed. In his post, he mentioned that Mahmoud’s brother Khalil had been killed a month before and his father had died previously, both killed in Jabalia Refugee Camp, their home.

According to relative Shimaa Abu al-Jubain, Mahmoud and Baraa had been attending the funeral for their aunt and cousin at the gate of Kamal Adwan Hospital when the bombing occurred.

Several individuals, including Hani Alshaer, a member of the press, Hasan Eslayeh Sahfi, a journalist, Hisham Abu Aljabeen, Salah Alddeen, and Um Bayan, also shared tributes or news of the deaths. Children of Jabalia camp posted: “The son of the camp / Baraa Abu al-Jubain, ascended to join the convoy of the moons of Jabalia camp. To God we belong and to Him we shall return.”

Multiple media outlets, including Safa News, Al Jazeera, Palestine Information Center, Msdr News, Palestine TV,  and Qadeyah, reported the incident on their Twitter accounts. Most reported the deaths of one person and injuries to another, while other sources mentioned “others injured”.

Relatives have shared multiple pictures of the victims. Mahmoud Jihad Abu al-Jubain was a young man, and in one picture, he is wearing a maroon jacket with a hat. In a second picture, young man Baraa Abdul Rahman Abu al-Jubain is smiling and wearing a green t-shirt. A third picture shows a group of mourners, including a woman and several men, grieving near the bodies of the deceased. The last picture shows two dead bodies inside a container surrounded by five people. Qadeyah published an image of Baraa Abdul Rahman Abu al-Jubain with two children seated on his lap, probably his young sons.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
