Last Updated: January 2, 2026

On October 20, 2023, journalist Mohammed Ali (Abu Ahed) was killed by an alleged Israeli airstrike on his home in Beit Lahia, Gaza.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS), posted a mourning text about Mohammed Ali, a journalist who worked for al-Shabab Radio (Youth Radio) in Gaza. Colleague Rawan A. Eid referred to Mohammed as a sound engineer for al-Shabab Radio.

Several independent sources confirmed that he was killed in his home in northern Gaza. Ali covered the war in Gaza, and was an important figure to many people who took to social media to publicly mourn his loss.

Photos circulated show a man, possibly in his thirties, wearing square glasses, with short black hair and a trimmed moustache and beard. He is wearing black collared button-down underneath a bright green safety-vest. He is smiling in the picture. Another photo shows him behind his desk at work, wearing a black hoodie, with his journalist vest hanging on the chair behind him. He is shown with slightly longer black hair, a moustache, and no beard while he concentrates on something off camera.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the shelling to the Israeli military.
