Airwars Assessment
On Tuesday March 18, 2025, one civilian, 62-year-old Nabil Jaber Ali Obeid, was killed during an alleged Israeli airstrike and/or artillery strike in Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip.
Facebook user Nidal Bahjat al-Qassas expressed his condolences and sympathy to his close friend Thaer Obeid, for the loss of his father. He also mentioned that an unspecified number of family members were injured; however, no further information on injured civilians was found. Nidal further stated that Nabil was killed in a bombing, but this has not been confirmed by other sources.
Where possible, names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, Nabil’s name is matched to the eighth ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on March 24, 2025.
Nabil had also been added to the list of casualties of March 18, 2025, by Shireen Monitor, a Palestinian organisation documenting the names of killed civilians. Though no other sources identified a belligerent, because both the MoH list and Shireen Monitor attributed Nabil’s death to the Israeli military, in addition to the reference to the attack as a “bombing”, this incident has been graded as a “likely strike.”
Very little information exists regarding the incident. According to Facebook users Khalef Alqatia and Aya Mohammad Arafa, who both shared lists of fatalities recorded on that day, the strike took place in Khan Younis.
