On the morning of Monday, March 31, 2025, Rami Jamal al-Aqraa, a fisherman, was injured after being allegedly shot by Israeli naval forces in the Deir al-Balah Sea in the Gaza Strip.
Many Facebook posts and videos showed Rami Jamal al-Aqraa being carried to get help after he was shot. Further posts on Facebook by journalist Saher Al-Aqraa reported that he was in critical condition in intensive care. Saher shared a photo of Rami in a hospital bed.
His cousin, Asaad Rami Al-Aqraa shared a message on Facebook for him reading: “A prayer for my dear cousin Rami Jamal Al-Aqraa for a speedy recovery.” Osama Al-Kahlout reported on Facebook that Rami was “shot three times by an Israeli boat while trying to catch his livelihood from the sea in Deir al-Balah to support his family” and that “this left him bedridden, unable to move, and he travels from his home to the hospital on a horse-drawn carriage in search of a treatment that will relieve his pain and restore his life.” A photo accompanied this post, showing a very thin Rami, laying on the carriage wearing an orange sweater and blue pants.
Where sources named a belligerent, all sources claimed the Israeli military was responsible.
