On 13 June 2025, around noon, 14-year-old Moamen Marzouq Abu Jamous and 67-year-old Zainab Khader al-Shawaf were reportedly killed by gunfire, allegedly fired by the Israeli military, near the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s aid distribution center in Rafah, in the southern the Gaza Strip.
Safa News reported at 12:42pm that two people had been killed near the “American company’s aid center” (Gaza Humanitarian Foundation) north of Rafah and journalist Mohamed Awad provided the names of Moamen Abu Jamous and Zainab al-Shawaf.
Abd Al-Rahman, Zainab’s nephew, mourned the loss of his aunt on Facebook, writing: “I convey to you the news of the martyrdom of the one with the cheerful face and kind heart, my second mother, my dear aunt Zainab al-Shawaf (Suhaila). O Allah, have mercy on her, accept her among the martyrs, and grant her a place among the prophets, the truthful, and the righteous in the highest level of Paradise. There is no power nor strength except through Allah. Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.”
He shared photos from the funeral, showing loved ones gathered in prayer in an open area. One image captured a young boy, his face streaked with tears. Another showed two women breaking down in grief. In another photo, Zainab’s body, wrapped in a white shroud, is seen being carried by a group of young men.
In another video shared by the Facebook page “Al-Kabira Abasan,” we witness the funeral procession of Zainab, referred to as the “town’s daughter” in the caption, likely alluding to her being from the city of Abasan.
A Facebook post from Adly Abu Taha referred to Moamen as a “young man”, his name was matched to an entry from the 10th Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) list in which his age was recorded as 14.
Where possible, names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the tenth ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on July 16, 2025.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military. This assessment will be updated if more details of the incident emerge.
