Shortly before 7 p.m. on June 18, 2025, up to seven civilians, including a young man, were killed and others were injured when Israeli forces allegedly opened fire on a crowd of people waiting to receive humanitarian aid. The incident occurred on Rashid Street in the Sudanese area northwest of Gaza City. Thousands of Palestinians had gathered there to receive bags of flour. In the posts shared online, the event was dubbed a “massacre” and “a livelihood drenched in blood”.
One of the victims killed was identified as a 22-year-old man named Khamis Mahmoud Khamis al-Fayoumi. According to @PS Online, he was killed in the Zikim area where he was waiting for aid.
At 7:05 p.m., @PalinfoAr on Twitter/X reported injuries on Rashid street among the civilians waiting for aid. At 8:03 p.m., the correspondent of Safa News Agency reported that “there are people injured by Israeli…forces’ bullets among those waiting for aid on Rashid Street, northwest of Gaza.” Al-Mayadeen Network reported two deaths resulting from a drone strike. On Facebook, Mohamed Awad mentioned seven killed and a large number of injuries at Rashid Street. According to Hana Hamoudi, “due to the large number of injuries, the wounded were transported in a civil defence vehicle after the [Israeli military] committed a horrific massacre against those waiting for aid on Rashid Street in northern Gaza.” The post was accompanied by a video showing a truck transporting several injured men. A civil defense volunteer can be heard giving those around instructions. Another video filmed by Anas al-Sharif and shared by Abdullah Abdullah on Facebook showed how wounded were transported on civili defense vehicles.
Two images shared by Hani Ashour Abu Rushdi on Faqcebook showed a man, severely injured in his abdomen, being transported on a wooden self-made stretcher.
Khamis’s death was mourned on Facebook by his uncle Hamada El Fayoumi who wrote: “Nothing will befall us except what God has decreed for us.” Indeed, we belong to God, and to Him we shall return. The martyrdom of my nephew, Khamis Al-Fayoumi. May God have mercy on your soul, my beloved.”
Sources varied as to the exact nature of the incident, with some reporting a drone strike, whilst others reported bullets being fired from Israeli ground forces. In amongst the chaos, several people sustained gunshot wounds, whilst others were reportedly killed. In the videos and photographs shared after the incident, people are seen carrying bodies out of the masses of people.
One of the stories shared online also highlighted how, within the chaos, an aid truck crushed a Palestinian man’s foot as he tried to get a bag of food for his family. At the moment, people had to rush to assist him to secure his aid package and prevent “hungry mouths” from taking advantage of the situation and stealing his share of the aid distributed.
Where possible, names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, Khamis’s name is matched to the tenth ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on July 16, 2025.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
