On the morning of Sunday, June 15th, 2025, at around 6 a.m., one civilian was injured following an alleged Israeli missile attack on the horse breeding center located in the Olympic Village sport complex in Kermanshah, Iran. Reports by Student News Agency also stated the deaths of 50 to 60 horses and injuries of around 20, which serve as a valuable reminder of the suffering that animals go through in acts of military action. The strike has also damaged a nearby hospital and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The owner of the facility, Ashkan Eftekhari, stated to Islamic Republic News Agency that an employee of his, the shed guard, was injured and transferred to the hospital, although no further information on the casualty has been released at the time of writing.

The report by the Student News Agency included a video with multiple interviews by presumed witnesses. Secondly, the video showed multiple injured or dead horses within the ruined building. @FarsNews_Agency also posted photos of the injured and deceased horses on X. A second interview by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) included an interview with the stable owner who confirmed one worker at the facility had been injured and was being treated in hospital. On X, user @ManotoNews reported that the ‘massive explosion [] shook the entire city’. Another post on X by @Simorgh_News included photographs that showed the size of the smoke plume following the incident. A sizable residential, urban area is pictured in the foreground of one of the images.

According to multiple sources, the center, which had three breeding sheds and a place to keep and train racehorses and thoroughbreds, was reportedly completely destroyed, and only a few injured horses remained.

Furthermore, @Germanlover67 noted, with an image from @Simorgh_News, that the windows of a nearby hospital were shattered as a result of the blast. @etemadonline also reported on the damage to the Imam Reza Hospital. Mersad News and Tasnim News Agency followed up and confirmed that there were no injuries at the hospital as a result of the damage it sustained.

On Facebook, @sedayemiras.ir reported that the Sassanid Complex of Taq Bostan also received some damage as a result of the missile attack. The complex is registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List and as per UNESCO rules, such sites must remain immune from any attack.

Finally, X user @pavehnejad posted his memories of learning to ride at the facility and his consequent love of horses. The post included two photos of the user riding at the facility.

It is important to note that the European-based @Irbriefing posted on X that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards had hidden missiles within the complex. @Freedommessenger and @IranNewsAgency0 also theorised on the location of missiles within the Olympic village. However, there have been no reliable media sources engaged with this theory.
