The Palestinian Center for Defending Journalists (PJPS) mourned journalist Hussam al-Titi, who was killed along with his wife and daughter in an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip on Thursday evening. PJPS noted that the number of journalists killed this month has risen to five. The center explained that al-Titi, 46, who worked for the American ABC network for two decades, was killed with his family in his home in Gaza City after the Israeli occupation forces resumed their war on the Strip at dawn last Tuesday. It noted that al-Titi was documenting Israeli war crimes during the current aggression.

Al-Titi was documenting Israeli war crimes during the current war. The Israeli army killed three other journalists this month: Bilal Abu Matar, Mahmoud Aslim, and Mahmoud al-Sarraj, while documenting humanitarian relief efforts in the town of Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip, on the 15th of this month. It also announced the death of journalist Alaa Asaad Hashem, who succumbed to injuries she sustained in an earlier Israeli airstrike on Gaza City. The PJPC notes that the killing of al-Titi and his family is part of a series of human rights violations committed by Israel against Palestinian civilians, including journalists who are supposed to be protected under international law. Since October 2023, the Center has documented grave violations against journalists working in the Gaza Strip, with hundreds being directly targeted, resulting in the deaths of approximately 210 journalists and the injury of hundreds more. More than 171 journalists have also been arrested, 51 of whom remain in detention. The Center reiterates its call to the international community to uphold its moral and legal responsibilities and ensure the protection of journalists and enable them to carry out their work without hindrance, in accordance with the principles of press freedom and international law. Furthermore, the Center calls on the Palestinian Journalists' Protection Center to condemn the deadly attacks against journalists, investigate these incidents, and hold those responsible accountable, stressing that targeting journalists constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
