At approximately 2 PM on July 24th, 2025, a declared Israeli airstrike targeting a Hamas militant killed at least one civilian and injured others. The strike was reportedly on Al-Awal Street near Mahran Kitchen in Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, west of Gaza City. The attack targeted and killed Salah Zaghra, the Deputy Commander of Hamas’s Sheikh Radwan Battalion.

Civilians Nafeth Deeb Abdel Qader al-Hindi “Abu Al-Deeb” was also killed, and Adi Haniya, a teenager or young man, was injured.

Initial Reports

At 1:49 PM, the Twitter/X account @Snd_pal shared an “Urgent” update, writing that an Israeli aircraft had targeted a car “in the vicinity of Mahran Kitchen”, resulting in “martyrs and wounded.” The account shared an update 13 minutes later, writing that four people had been killed.

Between the two @Snd_pal reports, at 2 PM, the Facebook account Al-Nuseirat reported that a “Jeep was targeted with two reconnaissance missiles in Sheikh Radwan,” adding that “there are a large number of casualties and martyrs.”

Facebook and Twitter users like @PalinfoAr and @alsweelimreem went on to echo the initial announcements, reporting that four people were killed and others injured.

In terms of the wounded, Twitter/X users @mohammedohadi and @nowgnna reported “a number of wounded,” and @mohammedohadi and Arabic-language news outlet snd.ps reported “injuries.”

Nafeth Deeb Abdel Qader al-Hindi “Abu Al-Deeb”

Posting to Facebook, Akram Dahman announced the passing of his uncle, Nafeth Deeb Abdel Qader Al-Hindi “Abu Al-Deeb”, who was also killed in the strike. Akram remembered Nafeth as “a cheerful face that never faded away, a man of kind heart and endless generosity.” Akram added that Nafeth’s passing brought “unbearable pain,” but said that the family was consoled knowing that Nafeth “walked the path of honor and dignity.”

Akram’s post included an image from Nafeth’s funeral. In the image, Nafeth lays on a stretcher and is cloaked in a white sheet, with only his face visible. A young boy gently touches Nafeth’s forehead, and another man, standing at Nafeth’s side, looks forlornly at the camera. Three other men stand behind the scene, and a few people are gathered in the shade of a building visible in the background.

Some users also referred to Nafeth as ‘Nawaf’, but images showed that the two appear to be the same person. Nafeth’s niece Alaa al-Hindi Nawaf posted to Twitter/X in his honour. Alaa wrote – “With deep sorrow, we mourn the martyrdom of our beloved uncle, Nawaf Al Hindi “Abu Al Deeb”, as he was killed in the attack on Sheikh Radwan this afternoon. We ask God Almighty to have mercy on him. To God we belong and to Him we shall return.”

Alaa also shared an image of Nafeth. In the image, Nafeth – who has grey hair – smiles gently toward the camera. He wears a red polo shirt with white, yellow, and blue stripes.

The Facebook account Beit Lahia Project Sons Association also remembered Nafeth, referring to him as “Hajj” and offering condolences to his family and writing that Nafeth was killed “As a result of targeting a car.” The post included an image of Nafeth where he looks off to his right and wears a khaki and grey striped polo shirt.

Facebook user ‘Indian cream’ , a username used by one of Nafeth’s children, also posted to Facebook in Nafeth’s honour. Accompanying the post were images, one of which showed Nafeth after he had been killed – his face is jaundiced and his body is covered by a white sheet.

Adi Haniya – injured

Moamen Mustafa, Adi Haniya’s father, posted to Twitter/X to share that his son had been injured in the strike. Moamen wrote following a prayer, “My son, #Adhaniya, was injured in an attack in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood.”

Moamen’s post included images of Adi lying on a stretcher in a hospital or medical center, an IV inserted in his right wrist and his white tank top pulled up to his ribs.

Militant – Salah Zaghra

Posting to Facebook and Twitter/X on the day of the strike, a number of people reported that Salah Zaghra had been killed, and noted his role as a militant.

Twitter/X user @Mostashar857229 shared a picture of Zaghra after his death, captioning it “A picture of the martyred Qassam commander”. Another Twitter/X user wrote “Deputy Commander of the Sheikh Radwan Battalion and Operations Commander, Salah Zaghra” had been killed “after a career full of jihad for the sake of God.” The post from @dSsCTfnqUUn6n7Y included a video of Zaghra giving a speech encouraging other fighters, as well as a photo of Zaghra after his death.

Twitter/X user @Mahmoud M. Safi also remembered Salah and Salah’s cousin, @Abu Baker Zoghrah, shared an image to Twitter/X of Salah post-mortem, wearing an Al-Quds Brigade headband (the military wing of Hamas).

The military declares the strikes

The strike that killed Zaghra, along with Nafeth, was declared by the Israeli military in an announcement on August 2nd, 2025 – a week after the strike.

On August 2nd, video shared by the Israeli Military’s Hebrew-language Telegram account included the caption – “On July 24, 2025, the IDF attacked and eliminated the terrorist Salah al-Din Zaghra, who served as deputy commander of the Al-Furqan Battalion in the Hamas terrorist organization.”

The video showed two strikes in quick succession. Just before the strikes, two people can be seen walking down a road, another person appears to sit on a motorcycle, and a car sits static. A third person stands a ways down the road. After the strikes, one of the people who had been standing near the motorcycle is seen running away as the smoke clears.

The Hebrew-language post went on to review Zaghra’s militant history, writing that he had “previously served as commander of the battalion’s combat support company and was responsible for directing and promoting numerous terrorist plots against citizens of the State of Israel and IDF forces in the Gaza Strip.”

The Israeli military’s English-language Telegram also announced that they had killed Salah, but the announcement did not include the video of the strike.
