In the early hours of the morning of Saturday, the 21st of June, 2025, a 16-year-old boy, Ehsan Ghasemi, was killed, and at least four others were injured in the declared Israeli attack on the fourth floor of a residential building in the Salariyeh neighbourhood of Qom, Iran. The target of the strike was a commander of the Palestinian Corps in the IRGC Quds Force, Saeed Izadi (also known as Haj Ramadan), who was killed in the attack.
The Israeli military confirmed the killing of Izadi in the press release published on their official website: “Saeed Izadi was the main person responsible for equipping and financing Hamas before the October 7 massacre. This operation is a great achievement for our army and military intelligence, and it is a realisation of justice for the victims and hostages. Israel’s long arm will reach all its enemies.” It was further alleged that Saeed Izadi was the main person responsible for funding and equipping the terrorist group Hamas prior to the October 7th attacks and that he led regional coordination between Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Palestinian groups and the former Syrian government led by Bashar al-Asad. Reportedly, Izadi transferred weapons to support Hamas’ terrorist activities against the State of Israel and continued attempting to do so in recent months.
According to fa.abna24, two people were injured in the strike, while Iranwire reported that at least four were wounded.
The teenage boy Ehsan Ghasemi was killed in the strike. Pictures circulated on X of a smiling Ehsan, clean-cut and dressed in a suit while looking towards the camera.
Ehsan Ghasemi’s grieving parents spoke to Mashreq News. According to his mother, the family had returned from the holy mosque of Jamkaran around 2 a.m. in the early morning of June 21st. While Ehsan had intended to go and sleep in his room, his mother told him to stay in the living room and sleep there because the air-con was cooler. The peace of the night was then abruptly interrupted by a sudden explosion. As dust and smoke filled the air, fire shot from the hole created by the rocket. His father scrambled to locate his wife, amidst the chaos and rubble. First, his wife appeared, and he was able to hug his two other children, who were crying and scared, but Ehasn could not be located. Despite his parents’ calls, he didn’t answer. They called for him over 20 times. Neighbours called for the family to escape the building, fearing further collapse of the structure and fire. The family managed to escape the building, but Ehsan never emerged.
Ehsan was described as a devout, polite and caring young man. He would kiss his mother’s hand when he arrived home and was very respectful towards his parents. He loved Iran and followed topics related to Islam on the Internet. He served at a teahouse in the holy shrine during Ramadan and Nowruz. Qom is a pilgrimage site, and home to the shrine of Fatima Masumeh, the sister of the eight Iman, Reza. It’s one of the most important religious sites in Iran and for Shia muslims.
Ehsan believed in doing good and upholding Islamic values. He would prepare livelihood packages for the disadvantaged, and provided stationary for needy students in schools.
Footage of the aftermath of the strike circulated on social media. A video shared by @manotoofficial on Instagram shows the residential building, while the lower floors appear to be intact, the Milan shop is on the ground floor, and on the middle floors, the lights are switched on, which shows the building has electricity. However, the top floor has sustained significant damage. The windows are blown out, and there are only remnants of the structure of the building remaining. A crowd of spectators has gathered outside, and were in a state of response, and there appears to be an ambulance on the scene.
According to the Ahlul Bayt International News Agency (ABNA), the strike was carried out with a drone, while some sources reported that there were several missiles that had hit the building.
