Couple Suhaib Mahmoud Salem al-Qurainawi and Hadeel Nihad Ibrahim al-War “al-Qurainawi,” both 32, were killed along with three of their sons after an alleged Israeli drone strike on the Manasra camp in Deir al-Balah on 12 July, 2025. Along with their parents, eight-year-old Mahmoud Suhaib Mahmoud al-Qurainawi and six-year-old Rawad Suhaib Mahmoud al-Qurainawi were killed instantly when the tent in which they had been displaced was struck. Two-year-old Ghaith Suhaib Mahmoud al-Qurainawi was injured in the explosion; he died from injuries hours later. Suhaib and Hadeel’s fourth son, Kinan Suhaib Mahmoud al-Qurainawi, was injured but survived. Alongside the al-Qurainawi family members, others were reported wounded. No other information about the injured was made available.

The family was originally from the Al-Bureij Camp. Suhaib was born to a family with political ties to the governing wing of Hamas: his mother is legislative council member Huda Naim and uncle, Basel Naim, is a senior political figure within the group.

Hadeel was remembered as a teacher and “mentor.” Considered a “caring sister, and a loving mother,” she taught Arabic and was “devoted to charitable work.” To her children, she was a model of generosity, and “showered [them] with affection and boundless love.”

Mahmoud was remembered as a “kind and helpful” child who enjoyed cooking and music. Able to connect with a range of people, Mahmoud “made no distinction between young and old.” He loved “songs and pictures, and found joy in helping his mother and aunt prepare food.” His favourite colour was yellow, “the colour of the sun.”

Twitter/X user @HuDa_NaIm92 shared a photograph of eight-year-old Mahmoud: his face is painted to resemble Batman, and he cuddles a cat.

@Gaza_Shaheed described Rawad as a “bright, mischievous” child who had a “kind heart and an unforgettable laugh.” Two photographs of Rawad, one in which he smiles proudly in football gear and another at a school graduation, were included with the post.

Ghaith, so grievously injured he would die from his wounds hours later, was “possessed [of] a sweet laugh and innocent words brimming with tenderness.” A generous child incredibly caring of his siblings, he would “rush to feed his siblings [a sweet] before tasting it himself.” Instagram user @mahmoudmohsen385 shared two photographs: one in which Ghaith stands and smiles, squinting in sunlight, and another on his second birthday, where he wears a jacket with ears on the hood.

The al-Qurainawi’s fourth son, Kinan, was injured but survived the strike to be left “without father, mother, or siblings.” Three days following the strike, Mahmoud al-Qurainawi, Suhaib’s father, posted on Facebook to “thank everyone who shared our grief and offered their condolences.” He asked for a “full recovery” for Kinan. In August, Mahmoud returned to Facebook to memorialise his son, remembering him as a “dutiful son, a loving brother, and a loyal friend.” Suhaib had been “kind, obedient, and eager to please us, even at the cost of everything you owned.” Of Hadeel. Mahmoud write that he had considered her a “second daughter” who was always keen to do what pleased us, without neglecting her home, despite all the responsibilities she bore.” She had raised “exceptional children in every sense of the word.”

The “Genocide in Gaza” website alleged that the strike had occurred “without prior warning.” Facebook user “Fedaa Sh” specified that the strike was committed by a quadcopter drone.

All deceased members of the al-Qurainawi family were matched with the Ministry of Health list. There was some slight discrepancy regarding ages between the Ministry lists and other sources. Ghaith, recorded as two by the Ministry, was stated to be three by “Genocide in Gaza.” Another source wrote that he had been two-and-a-half at the time of his death, which may explain the difference. The Ministry list, along with “Genocide in Gaza” put Rawad at six while one other source, @Gaza_Shaheed, claimed seven. @Mahmoud Mohsen had documented Mahmoud as nine, while the Ministry and “Genocide in Gaza” had recorded him as eight. The biggest discrepancy was in Suhaib’s age, with the Ministry of Health recording him as 32, and “Genocide in Gaza” claiming 35. Sources agreed that Hadeel was 32.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all pointed to the Israeli military.
