Airwars Assessment
On the evening of Monday, June 16, 2025, a 51-year-old man named Gholam Ali Pourrahmani was killed and two other people were injured as a result of an alleged Israeli drone attack in Andimeshk, Iran, that had been intercepted by Iranian air defences. The names of the injured civilians are currently unknown. According to ganjebipayan.ir, Gholam was killed near Imam Ali (AS) Hospital.
According to various sources, including Basij News Agency, Islamic Republic News Agency, and Akharin Khabar, “after the destruction of [an Israeli] drone in the sky of Andimeshk by [Iranian] air defense, shrapnel from the drone’s wreckage in residential areas of [Andimeshk] caused the martyrdom” of Gholam Ali Pourrahmani, “a civilian citizen of this city.”
An Instagram post announcing the details of Gholam’s funeral on “Thursday, June 19 at 8:30 a.m. from the door of Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque, Martyrs’ Alley, to the Martyrs’ Garden of Andimeshk” described the man as “an ordinary citizen” and included a portrait of the man with a mustache and a simple button-down shirt.
On the afternoon of June 18, Basij News Agency reported that “with the timely arrival of rescue forces, the condition of two other citizens who were injured is stable, and the wreckage of the drone was also moved out of the residential areas by security forces.”
The Head of the Welfare Department of Andimeshk County met with the Pourrahmani family in their home a month after Gholam’s death. About six months after the date of Gholam’s death, the Khuzestan Red Crescent Society visited his family to offer condolences and emotional support. The Khuzestan Red Crescent Society shared an image from the meeting, and helal.andimeshk, posting to Instagram, shared six. The images show seven women in black abayas, one man, and two toddlers – presumably Gholam’s surviving family.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces. Although sources mentioned the involvement of Iranian air defenses, as the casualties were specifically attributed to shrapnel from the Israeli drone, the civilian harm has been graded as “fair”. This will be updated should additional information become available.
