During the morning of November 18, 2023, at least 33 members of the Abu Habel family – including at least 20 children and nine women – were killed and dozens of others were wounded by alleged Israeli airstrike on a residential area near the Al-Houja (Al-Hawja) intersection in Jabalia Refugee Camp in Gaza.

@ShehabAgency reported on Twitter/X “more than 50 martyrs so far” when a residential block in Jabalia camp was bombed, describing the location as “near the Al-Hawja intersection, behind the Syrian restaurant.” Images taken by reporter Anas Al-Sharif and published alongside the @ShehabAgency reporting show dozens of people sorting through the rubble in a residential area, with a very large crater visible.

Leqa’a Al Saadi specified that seven families had been in the home at the time of the strike. A Facebook post by Eitedal Ismail announced the “massacre of the family of Hassan Yassin Abu Habel” and included the names of 32 family members killed. 67-year-old Hassan Yassin Abu Habel was killed along with his wife 67/68-year-old Zahia Abu Habel (Abu Riya), their son, 26-year-old Ahmed Hassan Yassin Abu Habel and their daughter, 28-year-old Asmaa Hassan Yassin Abu Habel. Asmaa’s husband, 30-year-old Imad Felfel (Abu Anas) was also killed alongside their children, eight-year-old Anas Imad Felfel, seven-year-old Qais Imad Felfel, and five-year-old Tala Imad Felfel.

Majid Ramadan Abuhble announced the death of his cousin Hassan and his family, and included an image of Hassan wearing a blue button-up shirt infront of a plant. A post from Umm Yassin Abu Habal highlighted the immense loss experienced by Hassan who was killed along with his wife, two of his children, his sons’ wives, and his grandchildren.

Mohammed Ziad Abu Firas mourned his dear friend and companion Imad, and included an image of Imad with a young boy, possibly one of his sons.

Additional members of the Habel family – the daughter-in-law’s and grandchildren of Hassan and Zahia – were also killed and named in the post by Eitedal Ismail. 40-year-old Sabreen Abu Habel (Al-Azraq) and her children, 15-year-old Muhannad Alaa Hassan Abu Habel, eight or nine-year-old Hassan Alaa Hassan Abu Habel, 19 or 20-year-old Lina Alaa Hassan Abu Habel, 21-year-old Rima Alaa Hassan Abu Habel, and Dina Alaa Hassan Abu Habel were killed. 34-year-old Asia Abu Habel (Rayan) was killed with her children, 15 or 16-year-old Musab Bahaa Hassan Abu Habel, 13 or 14-year-old Muhammad Bahaa Hassan Abu Habel, seven or eight-year-old Siraj Bahaa Hassan Abu Habel, and 14 or 15-year-old Nazik Bahaa Hassan Abu Habel.

Three more women and their children were among those killed: Nada Abu Habel (Rayan) and her children, 14 or 15-year-old Baraa Nour Hassan Abu Habel, 12-year-old Hassan Nour Hassan Abu Habel, 11-year-old Muhammad Nour Hassan Abu Habel, seven-year-old Firas Nour Hassan Abu Habel and four-month-old Yaman Nour Hassan Abu Habel; Manal Abu Habel (Al-Mabhuh) and her children four-year-old Karam Yassin Hassan Abu Habel, two-year-old Suwar Yassin Hassan Abu Habel, and a newborn baby girl whose name was not provided; 29-year-old Amna Abu Habel (Rayan) and her children eight or nine-year-old Qusay Muhammad Hassan Abu Habel, six or seven-year-old Hamza Muhammad Hassan Abu Habel, and four or five-year-old Rital Muhammad Hassan Abu Habel.

Jamal Nedal expressed the pain of losing “twenty-nine of my family, my support and strength” and included images of multiple generations of the family, including many children.

A post from Yasin A. Y. Abuhabel on Facebook included the ages of the victims. Additional ages were found by matching names with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the fifth and sixth ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ lists. The ages provided by local sources have been recorded in the victims list. Other ages of victims have been found by cross-checking names against lists of fatalities shared online by Genocide in Gaza, which has a list of “martyrs” of Israeli forces.

Early reporting by @ShehabAgency mentioned “injuries” and “missing” but did not provide additional details, while @SirLuka_ referenced “dozens” of injuries.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to the Israeli military.
