U.S. Air Force Pilatus U-28A Draco special mission aircraft, commonly used for ISR operations (w reg. 07-0777) flew yesterday from Djibouti to Bosaso Airport in Puntland . The flight coincided with reported AFRICOM airstrikes in Ballade, the Golis Mountains of Puntland.

Analysts believe that the fight against ISIS could take long term and might have both economic and security setbacks not only for Somalis but also beyond.

Puntland’s counter-terrorism operation said an airstrike targeted ISIS militants in the Al-Calmisqaad mountains. The strike was carried out by the United States in cooperation with Puntland, the operation said. The exact number of casualties in the strike was not disclosed. The strike took place in the Maragade well area, where ISIS militants were said to be hiding. Maragade is part of the Balade River.
