19-year-old Ibrahim Nasr Shallah and 16-year-old Malik Omar Naeem Shallah were killed in an alleged Israeli bombardment on the Shuja’iyya neighbourhood of Gaza City on 24 June 2025. “Many injuries” were also reported.

Initially, Ibrahim had been grievously wounded and in intensive care; the family was desperate for him to survive. Their mother had been distraught: her “sobs were overwhelming.” Ashraf Nasr, Ibrahim’s brother, had asked others to pray for Ibrahim in the hopes God would listen to them, if God would not listen to Ashraf – “Please pray for my brother and beloved Ibrahim’s recovery, for perhaps one of them is closer to God than I am…”

Ashraf was devastated by his brother’s death. He would “remember [him] every morning”; he would “remember [him] every evening.” He appealed to others to help him accept the loss: “I need certain news that will assure me of his eternal bliss.” Prayers Ashraf shared on social media were bereft, asking for assurance that God would accept his brother. “Far be it from You, O Most Merciful, Most Generous, that my brother Ibrahim should come to You with his torn body and bloodied face, and You would not have mercy on him. Far be it from You, O Lord! Far be it from You to see and hear the weeping of his mother and father and withhold Your mercy and forgiveness from him. Far be it from You, O Lord!” Included in this post was a photograph: Ibrahim can be seen at the right-hand side, in a beige jacket.

In another post, Ashram admitted that “for the first time, I feel emotions I can’t put into words.” He wished “for death”; he wished he had “never been born.” Ibrahim was “the one who used to check on [him] and ask about [him].” If either of the brothers was to die, Ashraf wrote, he had wanted it to be himself. Two days before his death, Ibrahim, certainly aware of the possibility of being killed, had “opened his phone and told [Ashraf], ‘If I die, download this picture and write on it: Ibrahim, Abu Jouri’s beloved, has left this world and emigrated.’” Now here he was, Ashraf wrote, “downloading it, Ibrahim, and until this moment, [he couldn’t] believe or imagine that [he would] go to sleep today without [Ibrahim] asking [him], ‘Do you need anything, Abu Jouri?’” He included the photograph Ibrahim had requested. In it, he smokes, wearing a black cap and black vest.

Other relatives mourned Malik, speaking of him as the “dear son of a dear one” and praying that God would make “Paradise [his] abode.” Photographs of Malik show him with a bright smile and dark curly hair.

The type of strike was not found among local sources; the most specific source wrote only that “Israeli … forces targeted the Shuja’iyya neighborhood in Gaza City without prior warning.”

Both Ibrahim and Malik’s names were matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza, first appearing in the tenth publication, released 16 July 2025.
