Montaser Saad Samour and his 43-year-old cousin Maher Harb Ahmed Samour were reportedly killed by alleged Israeli gunfire during the afternoon of Wednesday, 4 March 2026 on Salah al-Din Street, east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.
Facebook user Belal Zeid wrote that while one of the men was immediately killed, the other was “abducted […] then summarily executed.” In a video recounting the incident, the retelling is bleak: “one was shot in the chest and fell, martyred [and the other] was shot in the legs, taken away, and dragged away. He was only shot in one leg, but now that we’ve brought him back, he’s been shot in the chest and stomach. They executed him.” Both men were trying only “to get radishes and chard for their families.” “The young man was going to get food for his children. It’s clear they tortured him. This one came out; they tortured him and threw him on the Qarara bridge.” It is unclear which of the cousins was abducted.
With this, Ibrahim Qannan wrote, the Samour family had experienced “another chapter of loss.” Other sources turned to faith, asking that both men rest “among the blessed and reward them with the best of rewards.”
Maher’s brother-in-law, Abu Luay, wrote of his death and asked that “God have mercy” on him. In a photograph shared by @Qadeyah1, Maher is seen smiling, wearing a striped shirt.
Ziad Shahin mourned his uncle, Montaser, with “profound sorrow and grief.”
Montaser Samour was also mourned by the Fatah Movement, which included a photograph of him in a grey turtleneck, making a thumb-up sign. As Fatah no longer operates an armed militant wing, Montaser has been categorised as a civilian.
Alhaya Press Service included photographs of the “farewell and funeral procession” for Montaser, which took place at the Nasser Hospital.
Where possible, the ages of victims have been found by cross-checking names against lists of fatalities shared online by Genocide in Gaza, which has a list of “martyrs” of Israeli forces.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the shooting to the Israeli military.
