On the morning of Wednesday, March 25, 2026, up to five civilians, including children, were reportedly injured in the Al-Mawasi area in southern Gaza as a result of Israeli naval vessels allegedly shelling displaced people staying in a tent near the beach. Multiple sources have identified one of the injured as four-year old girl, Jouri Ahmed Shaath, who had been injured along with her two or three siblings, all children.
The earliest report found regarding the incident was posted from X user ‘Jalazone camp’ stating “Al-Mawasi Field Hospital: Four people were injured when Israeli naval vessels targeted displaced people near the beach in the Al-Mawasi area, south of the Gaza Strip. Three of the injured are children; two sustained moderate injuries, while one child’s injury is described as serious. A man was also injured.”
Alarabiya Palestine identified Jouri as one of the four victims, reporting that “four-year old Jouri Shaath was taken to the hospital after she and her three siblings were injured by Israeli gunfire.” The source also posted a minute-long video showing a young child with their head bandaged and face blurred, on a stretcher covered in what appears to be a yellow foil blanket being rushed from an ambulance into a hospital by men and women in medical scrubs. A man appears to be squeezing a manual resuscitator attached to the child’s face as a woman follows closely beside with what appears to be a tank of oxygen. This woman along with other people shown in the video appear to be wearing scrubs that have “Cadus” branded across the back, suggesting these are likely members of the independent humanitarian emergency response organisation known as Cadus. Cadus has been active in Gaza since February 2024 as a part of the World Health Organisation’s Emergency Medical Team (WHO EMT). Forty seconds into this video it cuts to an older man, clearly in distress with visible tears streaming down his face, as he recounts that “They were playing in the tent. A shell hit. This one missed, and another one too. There was another boy. The shell hit all three of them.”
Another source known as ‘Brahim Ibra’ shared the same footage in a Facebook post, identifying the distressed man in the video to be the children’s father, stating that “the father of four-year-old Jouri Ahmed Shaath stands helpless before his children’s injuries, his words were broken and tears never left his eyes as he recounts the terrifying moment his three children endured in the shelling. Four children were injured when Israeli warships directly fired on the tents of displaced people on the Khan Younis beach.” One of the two videos displays a closer angle of Jouri in the hospital. This angle provides a clearer view of the child, whose head is wrapped in bandages and who is incubated with a tube in their mouth. The video also captures the moment someone performs a medical examination manually opening and closing the four year old’s eyes as they hold a flashlight to the child’s face.
Abu Amjad Khamis from the Gaza / Palestinian News Network reported in a Facebook post that “Medical teams at the Al-Mawasi Field Hospital, affiliated with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced that they treated four injuries this morning Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as a result of a bombing that targeted a tent sheltering displaced persons on the beach in the Al-Mawasi area, southern Gaza Strip.” The post went on to explain that “the hospital reported that the bombing resulted in injuries of varying severity among the displaced persons residing in the area, which is classified as a “humanitarian zone” densely populated with tents…It is worth noting that the coastal area of Al-Mawasi is experiencing a massive influx of displaced people who have sought refuge there from various parts of the Gaza Strip, amidst difficult living conditions and repeated attacks on tents and shelters.” Attached to this post was a photo of a child lying on a hospital bed surrounded by onlookers and medical staff with what appears to be a manual resuscitator near the child’s face.
Shebab News Agency posted four different images of what appears to be two different children, both on hospital beds being attended to by men and women in scrubs and gloves. One of the children is laying in the fetal position in two of the images and in the other two images show a child on their back with, again, what appears to be a manual resuscitator attached to their face. The post’s caption describes the scene as “the moment four injuries, including three children, one of whom is in critical condition arrived at Al-Mawai Field Hospital as a result of the targeting of displaced people by [Israeli military] boats.”
In another report describing the incident, Facebook user ‘Hamla Kaddour’ posted three images of what appears to be an infant in a diaper with their head wrapped in bandages. The baby pictured is clearly in distress as they lie in a hospital being attended to by a person in scrubs and gloves. Along with the images, the post states “A young child survives Israeli airstrike that targeted southern Gaza yesterday.”
Where sources have identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the incident to the Israeli forces. A majority of the sources specifically referenced the attack coming from Israeli naval vessels near the sea in Al-Mawasi.
