Up to five civilians were killed and “others” including children were injured in alleged Israeli airstrikes on Samer Junction on August 7, 2022.

According to @MajdalPalestini, a civilian car was struck in the Samer Junction in the centre of Gaza City. @dooznablus reported that five citizens were killed at Samer Junction while @M_shebrawy identified three deaths. Albawaba News added that in addition to the three civilians killed, “several others” were wounded, including children.

@hanadyhalawani tweeted that Lieutenant Mahmoud Daoud of the Palestinian police force was wounded and later died in shelling at the Samer Junction and an image went viral of medical teams attempting to rescue him. Mondoweiss reported that Mahmoud was one of 10 family members and was on duty when he was killed by the Israeli strike. His father told Mondoweiss that “I taught my son the noble morals that were given to us by Allah, and he was beloved to everyone. Every time I walked out of my home, people stopped me to tell me how kind and beloved man my son is, people who I didn’t even know.”

A tweet from @ATamimi7 identified “the young Abdul Rahman Al-Silk” as being killed in the strike at Samer Junction. Jameel posted on Facebook that Abdul, 19 years old, was a a shoe seller in the beach camp market and Mondoweiss reported that Abdul was killed while he was on his way home from work. His brother Muhammad was also injured in the incident.

@_G4Z4 identified Nasser Obaid, Secretary of the Fatah movement in Gaza, as being killed.

According to @iMOHJOU, Khaled Ayman Yassin, 27 years old, and Shadi Imad Kahil (Shadi Imad Nemer Kahil), 27 years old, both from Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, were seriously injured. A tweet from @amal_hadad referred to Khaled as being a “martyr” and a Facebook post from Fatma O. Kuheil referred to Shade as a “martyr” indicating they later died from their wounds.

Shadi’s wife Asmaa told Mondoweiss that “he went out to get us food, but he came back to us in his coffin.” Shadi has recently purchased a horse and wagon to sell different goods to support his wife and two kids, and he was riding his horse and wagon when he was killed.

Mondoweiss reported that Khalid was one of 11 family members and worked with his five brothers cleaning streets and collecting plastic to sell. His father Ayman told Mondoweiss “When I told him that you should get married now, and I showed him the room, he said that this is too much for him. He was very humble and simple. Khalid kept opening and closing the closet in disbelief. Now I am sleeping in his room, waiting for him to return.” Khalid’s father Ayman also lost another son, Ismael, 22, in Israel’s offensive on Gaza in 2009.

A Facebook post by Ibrahim Awadeh identified the location as being Al Wahda Street, while Mondoweiss identified the location as being Gaza City, Omar al-Mokhtar Street.
