Over March 5th and 6th, news media reported that the Russian military conducted intense bombardment on the city Saltivka, including residential areas. UA crisis and Truexanewsua located one 16-story residential building, 271 Druzhba Narodiv street, that the forces allegedly hit.
Residents speaking to UAcrisis testified that they returned daily to the building to collect any items that remained. One man carried eight bags of broken glass, tiles and dishes. He recounted the shelling “When the bombing started, I couldn’t come here, everything was packed here. The firemen arrived, the Russians started beating again, then they turned around and left. Here it is not clear what: whether there was a mine or something else that blew out the windows. The serious one is a hole in the wall on the third floor. This is when it arrived for the first time. Who knows how many arrivals there were, you can’t count them,”. The correspondent described the damages: “starting from about the 9th floor, strong distortions visible on the stairwells of the high-rise building, some steps are placed at an unusual angle, tilted forward and to the left; several floors up there are cracks in the support structures and palm-thick gaps between some of the slabs. Each floor is littered with mountains of broken glass, plaster and remnants of apartment doors torn apart by the shock wave”. The reported noted that smell of flesh on the 13th floor but rescuers are not allowed to break into apartments until an application has been made. According to Yavhen Vasylenko, spokesman of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the smell could have been a pet which died, meat that has spoiled in a refrigerator as has been the case previously or a body.
State Emergency Service of Ukraine continue to fight fires and dismantle the rubble of destroyed buildings.
