Two al-Qaida members were killed by an alleged US strike in Toorikhel, near Mir Ali, North Waziristan, international media reported, though the US denied its involvement.

The two targets were reportedly Haitham al-Yemeni (an al Qaeda explosives expert) and his car passenger Samiullah Khan, described by NBC News as ‘a local warlord’. Both were killed in a Predator strike which reportedly targeted the former’s mobile phone.

Yemeni had been under US surveillance for more than a week, according to the Washington Post, and it is unclear why attempts were not made to capture him.

Amnesty International later accused the US of carrying out ‘an extrajudicial execution, in violation of international law.’

This strike, like the preceding and two successive attacks, was carried out with prior approval from the ISI. They were shown the feed from predators circling over the targets by the CIA, according to a former US intelligence officer.
