As many as eight people were killed and five wounded in a strike on a truck rigged with an anti-aircraft gun, local media reported.

Dawn reported that “two missile attacks by US drones on Monday killed five militants, said to be ‘Punjabi Taliban’ deployed in South Waziristan.”

BBC reported the highest death toll to be seven, reporting the victims to be people – not specifying whether they were civilians or militants.

AFP however reported that as many as eight militants were killed.

The attack, one of a pair, ’caused huge fires in both villages, sending panicked residents running into the streets,’ a security official told AFP.

According to reports the trucks had been brought into Waziristan by ‘Punjabi Taliban’ to defend against other drone strikes – see B49.

Formae Mentis reported that “in two separate attacks, three missiles were fired by US drones at South Waziristan‘s Karikot and Shin Warsak villages, a tribal area in northwest Pakistan, well-known as centre of Taliban and Al-Qaeda activity.”
