According to a single report, three civilians were killed at al Sha’afa during what was described as French artillery shelling from Coalition forces.
According to Asia News, “Three civilians were killed and others were wounded in the village of Al-Shaafa in the eastern suburb of Deir Al-Zour, as a result of artillery shelling carried out from positions occupied by French troops near the village of Bagouz Fouqani in the same area.”
No other claims related to this event are presently known.
The local time of the incident is unknown.

Reports of the incident mention the village of Al Sha’afa (الشعفة), for which the generic coordinates are: 34.57888, 40.93441. Due to limited satellite imagery and information available to Airwars, we were unable to verify the location further.

Original strike reports
For May 22nd 2018 the Coalition reported the following:
“On May 22 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted six strikes consisting of eight engagements against Daesh targets.
Near Abu Kamal, five strikes destroyed one Daesh fighting position.
Near Al Shadaddi, one strike destroyed one Daesh tunnel system.”
France has confirmed carrying out 34 artillery missions targeting the Euphrates Valley between May 16th-22nd.
“La Task Force Wagram en appui de l’offensive contre les dernières poches de Daech présentes dans la vallée de l’Euphrate Les artilleurs de la Task Force Wagram demeurent engagés en appui de l’offensive contre les dernières poches de Daech dans la vallée de l’Euphrate. Depuis le lancement de l’offensive le 1er mai, ils ont d’ores et déjà réalisé 84 missions de tirs.”
