Airwars assessment
Shortly before 11:19 AM on 8 August 2024, Khaled Munir Shreim was reportedly killed when an alleged Israeli airstrike hit the home of the Shreim family in Jojo square of the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood to the north of Gaza City.
Twitter/X account Alquds Today (@AlqudsT) was among the first to report the incident at 11:19 AM. Multiple other sources also reported that the airstrike hit the family home near to Sheikh Radwan bridge and south of the Al-Jisr roundabout in the neighbourhood. Safa News reported that an ambulance and emergency crew attended the scene in response to someone who was seriously injured in the attack, later reporting that the young man Khaled Munir Shreim had died in the attack.
A post from Alsaqr explicitly stated that the wounded person later died after being recovered. A Facebook post from Mohammad Mahmoud reported that in response to the “targeting” of the Shreim family home, “The house is evacuated, no injuries.”
The ambulance and emergency crew also reported their presence at the scene and the transportation of a seriously injured person in the aftermath of the attack. Footage shared on Facebook by an account called “Breaking News” showed a video of an unconscious man being pulled from the rubble by civil defence and emergency crews. From the footage and photos shared by relatives, it would appear that the person in the video was Khaled.
A cousin of Khaled named Osama Shreim posted a condolence message along with a prayer, while Nona Ali, Khaled’s aunt, mourned her sister’s son, along with an image of Khaled in a black button-up shirt standing on stairs, possibly at school. The Al-Dameer Foundation for Human Rights also posted a memorial to Khaled, who they identified as a Member of the Friends of Conscience Youth Team. Based on images and references to “youth,” Khaled has been counted as a child. Airwars will update the assessment if more information on his age is found.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
