Airwars Assessment

Last Updated: January 6, 2026

Shortly before 9:33 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, two fishermen were injured during an alleged Israeli naval gunfire at sea outside Gaza City. Twitter/X account @AlMayadeenLive (https://x.com/AlMayadeenLive) was the first to report the incident at 9:33 a.m.

Based on numerous reports from local media and posts by social media users, the fishermen Mohammed Bashir Muhaisen and Tariq Ahmed Muhaisen were injured while fishing outside Gaza City. Given the two men’s shared last name, Mohammed and Tariq have been recorded as family members. According to Zakaria Baker, a local specialist on fisheries-related issues in the Gaza Strip, the injured fishermen were taken to a hospital for medical treatment. However, no further information regarding the injured could be obtained by the researchers.

Al Jazeera Palestine included a photograph in their posts on Facebook and Instagram, showing two fishermen aboard a small blue-painted fishing boat loaded with nets. One man is seated, steering the boat into or out of a small harbour, while the other stands nearby, appearing to tie or adjust something with his hands. Both are dressed in black T-shirts and have dark hair. It is unconfirmed whether the individuals shown in the photograph are the injured men referred to in this incident.

The incident was largely covered by local media sources on X/Twitter and Facebook, including Shaab Voice, Palestine Today, Al Maydeen Live, Al Araby TV and Al Quds Today and private social media sources, including activists Mohammed Saeed and Mohammed Mahmoud. Various sources, including Al-Jazeera, Snd News, Msdr News, Donia al Watan and a7atPlBreaking, quoted a statement by the Gaza Fishermen’s Union in their news reports.

Almost all sources located the incident in the Gaza Sea off the coast or west of Gaza City. Media outlet Al-Riyadh further stated that the incident occurred at the shore.

Available sources mostly described the incident as gunfire, with many further specifying that the bombing was conducted from a naval vessel operating in the Gaza Sea. Others used terms such as “bullets” or “fire” to describe the incident.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all attributed the airstrike to the Israeli military.
