Airwars assessment

On Tuesday, October 24th 2023, an alleged Israeli airstrike killed the father, mother and sister of the journalist Muhammad Maqat, in their family home on Al Ghubari Street in the city of Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip. Others were reportedly injured.

The following day the Palestinian news agency Safa reported that the father of Muhammad Maquat, who was a respected journalist on Sawt al-Quds Radio, had died when his house was allegedly bombed. The father was named Zayed Maqat (Abu Mohammed) and he was reportedly killed alongside his wife and daughter.

The Jabaliya Revolution Page posted on Facebook added that there was “talk of 3 martyrs and injuries”.

An outpour of grief for the family was expressed online. Matar jabr alzaq posted on Facebook expressing their condolences to their “beloved and dear Mohamed Zayed Maqat” on the death of his family members. Two days later, on October 26th 2023, the community Facebook page “Al-Maqat and Al-Haddad Youth Gathering” further mourned their loss in a Facebook post and attached a picture of Hajj Zayed Maqat/Abu Muhammad, inside with a mask on, wearing a t-shirt and reaching for a plate of food.

Where possible, Airwars has matched names with the Palestinian Ministry of Health list of nearly 7000 victims’ names and ID numbers released on October 26th.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
