During the morning of Wednesday, October 25, 2023, an alleged Israeli airstrike struck a house belonging to the Alwan family located near Al-Tayeb Hal in Jabalia, northern Gaza Strip, killing at least 18 identified family members, including six women and seven children, and injuring a number of others. Reports indicated that the multi-storey family home was completely destroyed, resulting in the deaths of all those inside.

The exact number of casualties varied among sources. While many sources mentioned “martyrs” or “a number of martyrs” without specifying figures, some, including Twitter/X users @ali_ahnomi, @Alfata_haidar, and @PalinfoAr, reported that six people died during the attack. However, based on the names provided by Professor Hisham Alwan, at least 18 people were killed in the attack.

Injuries were also reported, but precise numbers remain unclear. Many sources referenced multiple injuries without providing specifics. Alainpress wrote that “6 citizens were killed and a number of others were injured,” without specifying further details. Different sources, including Alain Press, reported that some of the injured were transported to the Indonesian Hospital, though their identities are unknown at the time.

Local sources and family members provided the names of 18 individuals killed in the attack. A Facebook account for “Jabalia City” shared a list of casualties from several airstrikes near Al-Tayeb, including three victims from the Alwan family’s house. Among the deceased were siblings – 12-year-old girl Nour Suhail Alwan, eight-year-old boy Youssef Suhail Alwan, and 13-year-old girl Shahid Suhail Alwan, as well as a 42-year-old woman named Faryal Atta Alwan (al-Najjar).

Another Facebook user, Professor Hisham Alwan, posted a detailed list of family members killed in the attack, reporting that “everyone in the four-storey house and a number of neighbours” perished when the home of his uncle, Abu Al-Saeed, was destroyed. This list identified additional victims, including a 46-year-old woman named Mona Atta Sarda (Umm Osama).

Further casualties included 57-year-old Khaled Abdullah Alwan who was killed alongside his wife, 53-year-old Adeeba Abdel Hadi Alwan (Badr), along with several of their children and their grandchildren.

Their son, 33-year-old Saeed Khaled Abdullah Alwan, was killed with his wife, 34-year-old Khansa Abdullah Alwan (Rayhan), and their children, 11-year-old son Louay Saeed Khaled Alwan and five-year-old daughter Maha Saeed Khaled Alwan.

Another son of Khaled and Adeeba, 28-year-old Mahmoud Khaled Abdullah Alwan, died alongside his wife, Alaa Badr, and their five-year-old son Baraa Mahmoud Khaled Alwan.

The 30-year-old daughter of Khaled and Adeeba, Siham Khaled Abdullah Rayhan was killed along with her husband, 36-year-old Hussein Abdullah Rayhan, and their one-year-old daughter Heba Allah Hussein Abdullah Rayhan.

A third son of Khaled and Adeeb, 29-year-old Muhammad Khaled Abdullah Alwan, was also among the deceased.

Family members expressed their grief on social media. Facebook user Mohamad mourned the loss of his aunt, Mona Atta Sardah, writing: “O reassured soul, return to your Lord, satisfied and pleasing, so enter among My servants and enter My Paradise.”

Where possible, the names of the victims have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released nine lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars matches individuals to the first list where their names appeared. Regarding this incident, names are matched to the first and second “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities” released on October 26, 2023, and January 7, 202,4 respectively.

Where possible, the ages of victims have been found by cross-checking names against lists of fatalities shared online by Shireen Monitor, an organisation which has a list of “Martyrs of Palestine” from 2023 onward.” Additional ages were also found among a list of fatalities shared online by Genocide in Gaza, which has a list of “martyrs” of Israeli forces.

Regarding the form of attack, while most sources reported about the “bombing” of the house,  the news agency Safa reported that the alleged Israeli aircraft hit the family house, and Twitter/X user @AlqudsT also mentioned an airstrike.

Alain Press reported on Facebook about “raids by the Israeli enemy,” while the Twitter/X account @SafaPS noted that the house “was completely leveled to the ground.”

Where sources identified a belligerent, the attack was attributed to the Israeli Military. Alain Press explicitly referred to “raids by the Israeli enemy, while Twitter/X user @paldf cited the “occupation air force” as responsible.

All sources that referred to the location indicated that the attack occurred at the Alwan family house in Jabalia, northern Gaza. Some sources, including Jabalia13 and Maha, specified on Facebook that the house was located near Al-Tayeb Hall.
