Airwars assessment
During the night of October 6, 2024, an Israeli aircraft allegedly bombed the Al Shafi’i School located near Al Sousi Mosque and in the vicinity of the Firas Market area in the al-Samar area, in the center of Gaza City. The school was serving as a shelter for displaced people, and the attack resulted in at least one death, along with at least five injuries, including women and children.
A post by “Made in Gaza” reported that Rami Asaad Shuhiber (age unknown) died from his injuries sustain by the strike.
The Al-Sabra Neighborhood Portal and Nahed Nemr Shuhiber offered their condolences to the Shuhiber family. At the same time, the victim’s relative, Umm Ali, expressed on Facebook a prayer for her dear aunt to find patience on the loss of Rami Asaad Shuhiber – it is unclear if Rami was her aunt’s son or husband.
In addition, most sources reported five people injured, though the actual number could be higher, as some local news outlets, such as the Palestinian Press Agency Safa and al-Arabiya Palestine, did not provide a specific figure. Mansa Ealamia Mahmoud Abo Zanda, a member of the medical staff, stated on Facebook that his team recovered one victim and five injured individuals following the bombing. This same number was confirmed by Al-GhadTV, Zahwa Press, Palestine Online (PS Online), and various Facebook posts. Zahwa Press also shared an image, likely taken at the moment of the explosion, with trucks and fire visible in the background. PS Online also specified that women and children were among those injured.
According to the Palestinian Press Agency Safa, the incident occurred around 1:37 am local time. However, PS Online, which shared pictures of the destruction where the only recognizable items amid the rubble were mattresses, stated that the event occurred at dawn.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
