On Wednesday, November 1st 2023, between seven and 12 civilians were killed, including at least two women, as a result of two separate alleged Israeli airstrikes on the homes of the Abu Nasr and Abu Odeh families in the Khan Younis refugee camp, located in the southern Gaza Strip. At least 16 others were reported wounded. According to the sources, the Abu Nasr family home was located south of the Jasser Building while the Abu Odeh family home was in the block G of the camp.
According to the Facebook account of journalist Tareq Abu Ishaq (الصحفي طارق أبو إسحق), the victims of the strike within the Abu Nasr family were identified as 32-year-old Ahmed Awad Nasr, his 26-year-old wife, Islam Mustafa Nasr, and 18 or 19-year-old Malik Hamdi Al-Kahlout. Additionally, journalist Tareq reported that there was another unidentified female victim and 33 wounded, including children and women, as shown in a video posted on his account on November 1st, depicting the victims’ arrival at the hospital.
Within the Abu Odeh family, 63-year-old Professor Khalil Ahmed Muhammad Abu Odeh was killed alongside his 12-year-old daughter Yumna Khalil Ahmed Abu Odeh and his grandson whose age and name are unknown.
Heba o ashour mourned the loss of Khalil Abu Odeh in her Facebook post, writing that he was her mother’s uncle. His nephew Yousef Ashour wrote his tribute to the late Khalil, calling him a “distinguished Professor and a leader”. Youssef shared an image of his uncle, a man with grey hair and beard, wearing glasses and posing in a classroom. Fatima Khader also mourned the death of her uncle.
Other sources, such as Daaarb.com, Sky News Arabia, and Khaligyoun.com, reported that at least five people died and more than 40 others were injured during these alleged airstrikes which affected both the homes of the Abu Nasr and Abu Odeh families in Khan Yunis. Multiple other local sources referred to either “more than 15” or “more than 20” people injured in both strikes. Later Twitter/X users @PalpostN and @Abdell_33 reported that 12 people were killed in both strikes.
All full names of victims were matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health list of fatalities in Gaza released on July 24, 2024.
