Airwars Assessment
Shortly before 7 a.m. on Thursday 8th May 2025 at least two fishermen were injured by alleged Israeli naval fire whilst fishing in the sea near Khan Younis. The victims have not yet been identified.
Information about the incident first appeared at 7.03 a.m. in a report made by an Al-Mayadeen correspondent which detailed two injured fishermen as a result of Israeli gunfire off the coast of Khan Younis. Several news sources including Safa News, AJA Breaking and The Box News also reported on the incident. However, almost all news sources repeated the initial claim made by Al-Mayadeen, without any additional information.
Facebook user Mohamed Rashwan expanded on the initial report, writing that the men were “working in the sea” and that such work was “a dangerous source of livelihood, but it is the only way to obtain food in light of the tight siege and widespread famine.”
Due to the sources’ repeated claims, Airwars has currently graded this incident as a “single source claim,” and will await further clarifying information.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the incident to Israeli Forces.
