At least 13 people were reportedly killed and up to 153 wounded by an alleged Israeli attack near a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid distribution centre west of Rafah on the morning of 8 June 2025. Those killed were trying to secure humanitarian aid.

11 men were identified as killed in the strike: 35-year-old Jihad Abdel Rahman Ali Abu Hussein, 35-year-old Khaled Ahmed Ali al-Daghma, 28-year-old Amr Mohamed Khalil al-Bahtini, 23-year-old Mohamed Younis Ramadan Lafi, 19-year-old Ahmed Hamdi Adel (Ahmed) Abu Hilal, 32-year-old Ibrahim Mahmoud al-Najjar, 29-year-old Yasser Mohamed Ghanem Shalouf, 38-year-old Bilal Mustafa Darwish Abu al-Ras, 27-year-old Ahmed Bassam Attia al-Najjar, 43-year-old Ahmed Mahmoud Mohamed al-Gharabli and 36-year-old Abdel Rahman Hamada al-Majayda. A further two children were reported deceased: 16-year-old Fayez Raafat al-Attar and 14-year-old Abdullah Abdel Rabbo Talab Abu al-Hussain.

A fourteenth person, Hossam Haroun – seen in photographs wearing a red polo – was also included in lists of the deceased from this strike by multiple sources. However, a report from a family member clarified that though Haroun was killed on 8 June, he was killed in a different location, and so is not a casualty from this incident.

While @EmanAl3omari reported a “large number of wounded,” user soutalommaa and Roya TV posited an injury toll of 70. Palestine TV (تلفزيون فلسطين) published even larger figures: “hundreds were injured.” Alarby TV – Arabic News reported the highest count: 153 injured.

Sources emphasised the danger of securing aid, whilst mourning those who died in their attempts to obtain it. A video showcasing funeral rites was captioned: “He went out in search of a livelihood, but returned in his shroud.” A subsequent post from X/Twitter user Meemmag reported that the person killed in the video was “a child no more than 16 years old” who had “died thirsty and hungry.” He had been shot, the post clarified, “in the head, in the neck.”

Facebook user “New for you” highlighted Khaled Ahmed al-Daghma, recognising him for his dedication to his family – he had been killed only because “he went to provide food for his 5 children.” Included was a photograph of Khaled, arms crossed, in a black and white polo-necked shirt. His children were bereft at the news of his death, wishing he hadn’t gone to get aid: “his daughters […] cried: We don’t want to eat. I wish you hadn’t left, Dad.” Photographs shared by Facebook user Katyusha Bint Nasser show Khaled’s daughter: in one, she is crouched by his shrouded figure, her small hands resting on the cloth, her head pressed to his; in the other, her face is tear-streaked. Khaled’s sister, speaking to Meem Magazine, was unequivocal: “This is a trap for young people to die. This is a war of extermination.”

Zakaria al-Daghma announced a funeral for his uncle, Khaled, to be held in Belgium over the course of two days. Attached was a photograph of Khaled with two small children. Kastro S Aldaghma, Khaled’s cousin, later posted photographs of friends and relatives at the memorial service. Kastro was appreciative of those who attended: “Many thanks and appreciation to those who offered their condolences by attending, calling, or through social media.” He asked that well-wishers would be spared the pain his family had endured: “May God not make you repeat [condolences] to those you love.”

A black and white image of Abdel Rahman al-Majayda was shared by an extended family group, the Al-Majayda Family Association, with an announcement of his death.

Memorialising Fayez al-Attar, Facebook user Khalid Dahir attached a photograph of the teenager in a red sweatshirt, and highlighted the pain of his death. “You have broken our hearts.” Another photograph shared by Nasr Elatar showed Fayez standing on a structure, arms spread wide against bright blue sky. Elatar lauded Fayez for having memorised the Quran, while Mohammed Al-Attar remembered him as “well-mannered.” To Saher Abu Arar, Fayez was a “neighbor, friend and brother.”

Amro Hussein remembered his cousin Jihad Abu Hussein, attaching a photo of Jihad in a logo-printed shirt on a walkway.

Amal Hadad asked that “God have mercy” on Ahmed al-Gharabli, while Ibrahim Abu Shallouf wrote that the news of Yasser Abu Shalouf’s death was “painful” and shared condolences for the loss of a “dear” man. In an attached photograph, Yasser is seen lying down, his head propped up on his arm, in a black shirt with red-and-white stripe.

Facebook user “Good deeds” asked that “God have mercy” on Amr al-Bahtini, including a photograph of Amr wearing a black polo neck. A Facebook page for the Al-Bahtini family – Al-Bahtini Family Youth Association – asked that God allow Amr to ascend to “the highest paradise.”

A photograph of Mohamed Younis Ramadan was included in a memorial collage shared by Saif al-Bahri. Mohamed is in the top left corner, wearing a white jacket and yellow shirt. “New Life – Alhaya Press Service” and Journalist Muthanna al-Najjar clarified that Mohamed Younis Ramadan was deaf; it was possible he was initially unaware of the shooting. Diab A Lafy remembered Mohamed as “beloved” and attached four photographs – Mohamed in a white puffer jacket, a blue short-sleeved shirt, a black-and-white printed top, and a black and white sweater with a checked scarf. Muthanna al-Najjar attached photographs of Mohamed’s funeral, capturing his father’s grief. “At the moment of farewell, the crying wasn’t just tears, it was the wailing of a father whose heart broke for his son Mohamed, who had returned a martyr after going out to bring a morsel of food to support his family.” He had gone to find food “without hesitation, carrying his heart in his hands, searching for a life for his family.” It was this selflessness, the post emphasised, that Mohamed would be remembered for: that Mohamed “is a deaf young man, but the whole world heard his message.” He was, his uncle Ahmed Ramadan Lafi remembered, a “sweet young man.” To Abdelsalam A Lafi, he “left a huge void.” A post from Facebook user Mohamad Lafi announced that Mohamed’s brother, Ibrahim, was killed the following day.

Remembering “beloved” Bilal al-Ras, Facebook user Musab Jahir, asked that “God […] accept you and […] place you among the prophets” and attached a photograph of a young, bearded man. Abdul Rahman Jahir (عبد الرحمن جهير) shared a second photo of Bilal in more formal dress. Nidal Muhammad al-Ras considered Bilal “one of the best of your creation.”

A collage of the deceased shared by multiple sources shows 5 victims. From the top left, wearing a red shirt printed with the words “Crazy Game” is Ahmed Abu Hilal. To the right, in a white shirt, is Bilal al-Ras. Below Bilal, on the bottom right and wearing a blue shirt is Abdul Rahman al-Majayda. The centre bottom photograph is of Ahmed al-Gharabli, in a blue jacket and light blue shirt. Next to Ahmed, on the bottom left, is Yasser Shalouf.

Sources echoed to a pervasive sense of despair and hopelessness. “This morning’s news,” Facebook user Abdelrahman Kishk wrote, “as it is every morning, is that several Palestinians have been killed.” Kishk emphasised the lack of choice afforded people: “the famine is worsening day by day and has reached dire levels.” It was this absence of food that was “driving people to walk to their deaths.”

Sources argued that the casualties stemmed from an Israeli ground operation: those killed were “martyred by the fire of the occupation army.” While most sources referenced “bullets,” “shooting” or otherwise pointed to a ground operation, Asharq News claimed the casualties stemmed from “Israeli shelling.” Facebook user Fresh Start Movement reported similarly, writing that people were targeted “with approximately three artillery shells.”

A video shared by Facebook user Ghada Mahmoud Elhenawy “documenting the moment of shooting at Palestinians near the US aid distribution center,” gunfire is clearly audible. Asharq News – Palestine (الشرق للأخبار – فلسطي) corroborated that people had to “crawl under heavy gunfire” to reach the aid. Katyusha Binta Nasser slammed the aid distribution centres as “death ambushes.”

Journalist Mohammed Nabil Abu Armana reported that the “ambulance and emergency unit, Eng. Al-Najjar” evacuated “more than 100 injured people.” The deceased and wounded were subsequently brought to the Nasser Medical Complex.

All names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the tenth ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on July 16, 2025.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all pointed to the Israeli military.
