Airwars assessment
On November 1st 2023, an alleged bombing by an Israeli military aircraft on a house in the northern Gaza Strip on al-Alami area of Jabalia Camp, resulted in at least two injured children and possibly killed another child.
A Palestine Today correspondent, posting to Twitter/X, reported that the house allegedly bombed by an Israeli aircraft belonged to the Mustafa family.
On Twitter/X, Shehab Agency wrote that a number of injured people arrived at the Indonesian Hospital in North Gaza. The post included four images. Two of the images show injured children – a boy and a girl. The third image shows an injured man. In this third photo, the man is walking away from an ambulance, his head and neck bloodied. His presence partially obstructs another individual, who is being carried out of the ambulance on a stretcher. The extent of this individual’s injuries are unknown. The fourth image shows another person covered in blood, whose eyes are closed, largely covered by a blanket, being carried on a stretcher. Twitter/X user Vivalalgerie7 reposted the images.
From these images, Airwars has assessed a minimum fatality toll of zero but a maximum of one to account for ambiguity amongst the casualties, given the possibility that the individual depicted in the fourth image is deceased. As the person appears young, this has been accounted for in the child fatality ranges.
Referencing these photos, Airwars is also assessing the minimum number of civilians injured as four and the maximum as five, as photos one, two, and three clearly show four injured individuals, at least two of whom are children. To account for the possibility that the individual depicted in the fourth image was injured and not killed, the maximum injury toll is five. Though the individual depicted in the fourth photograph is largely covered, it appears that he may be a young boy. As such, the minimum number of children injured is recorded as two, and the maximum is three, in the event that he is in fact a young boy and injured.
Posting to Facebook, Anas al-Sharif, an al-Jazeera Channel news reporter from Jabalia Camp, shared three images of the Mustafa family’s house. The images were reshared widely, with al-Quds Channel citing “major destruction.” From the images, it appears that the Mustafa house was a multi-story house of at least two stories. The second story appears almost entirely destroyed, with concrete rubble and metal rods turning the neighbourhood scene to grayscale.
Where sources mentioned a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
The incident occured at approximately 2:00 pm local time.
