Airwars Assessment

Last Updated: April 14, 2025

On Wednesday November 1st 2023, at least three civilians were reportedly injured as a result of an alleged Israeli artillery and/or airstrike attack on an UNRWA vehicle near the coastal road in the Sheikh Ajilin area, southwest of Gaza City.

Three civilians were reported injured by several sources. While Abu Omar Zourob states that three children of an UNRWA employee were injured, @sameh2655014316 reported that it was three UNRWA employees who were injured. To account for this uncertainty, injuries to children have only been accounted for in Airwars’ upper injury estimate.

Most sources reported that an UNRWA vehicle was bombed, while fewer sources state that it was hit by artillery. Some sources do not specify details, stating that the “vehicle was targeted.” Only Abu Omar Zourob reports that the vehicle was damaged after it was “directly hit by shell fragments from the warships.”

The pictures and videos of the vehicle show that the vehicle displayed at least three UN labels – on each side and the front. In some footage, it is also visible that there was a UN flag attached to its side mirror. The photos and videos were taken after the attack and showed that the windows of the vehicle were completely broken on one side and partly broken on the other side. The metal at the front of the vehicle was slightly damaged as well.

Regarding the specific area of the incident, many, including Politiket, @paldf, and @palinfoAr, reported that the bus was located in the Central Governorate when it was attacked. Others, including Najah fm, Safa.ps News, and @newsnajah, specified that the bus was “near the coastal road in the Sheikh Ajlin area, southwest of Gaza City.” Omar Zourob further reported that the vehicle was on its way from “Gaza to Central” when it got hit.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the attack to the Israeli Military.
