Shortly before 2 AM on Saturday, 4 November 2023, a 59-year-old woman named Mona Ghanem Abu al-Hussain al-Maani (Umm Tamer) was reportedly killed and three others were injured when Israel forces allegedly carried out an airstrike on the home of the Abu al-Hussein family in the al-Nasr neighbourhood of Rafah.
Twitter/X user @20_allmz reported the incident at 2:06 AM marked as “urgent”, noting that a “martyr” and three injuries arrived at the al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah after the attack on the Abu al-Hussein family house. Shehab News corroborated this information, and in the tweet, shared an image of a white body bag with a name written on it – the name is not legible from the image.
According to posts on Facebook from various family members, Mona Ghanem Abu al-Hussain was killed in the attack. She was a relative of the al-Hussein family. A post by Abu Habiba on Facebook mourning her loss and referred to her as Umm Tamer, suggesting she was a mother. Another post from Hawytek Sodfa, a nephew of Mona, shared a photo of Mona showing her in a black hijab and a white Adidas cap.
There were no additional details available among local sources about those injured.
Mona Ghanem Abu al-Hussain’s name was not matched to the Ministry of Health list of fatalities in Gaza but her age has been found by cross-checking her name against the list of fatalities shared online by Shireen Monitor, an organisation that has a list of “Martyrs of Palestine” from 2023 onward.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
