During the evening of  November 4, 2023, an alleged Israeli airstrike struck a residential house in al-Shati (Beach) Refugee Camp, west of Gaza City, reportedly killing a number of civilians, including a man, and injuring at least five civilians, including an elderly man, two children and an infant. Various online sources and witness accounts depicted the incident as impacting a whole residential area.

On Facebook, Mansa Ealamyia Mahmoud Abo Zanada, Nedaa Asaad, and Hani Alshaer posted urgent status regarding deaths and injuries following the bomb explosion. On Facebook, the account Shadi Press referred to it as a “new massacre,” citing widespread destruction in and surrounding the marketplace in the camp for refugees in al-Shati. Facebook user Qanat Falsten Al Ayoum, as well as Shabakt Rasd Al Ikhbaria, Al Falstenia Mix, and Masdr Al Ikhbaria, claimed that there had been an Israeli airstrike hitting a home, and widespread damage had occurred.

In addition, news website Safa.ps confirmed at 17:42 on November 4, 2023, that there had been an airstrike at the Beach Camp, resulting in casualties.

A graphic video posted on Facebook by Aaed Baker showed the aftermath of the strike – depicting a residential area hit and one building completely collapsed. The video showed the rescue efforts with many harrowing episodes. The body of the killed man was transported on a stretcher – his clothes soaked with blood. Then a man was seen carrying an elderly injured man in his arms, and another man was carrying a girl who was loudly screaming from pain. The video further showed an infant being carried out by a man into an ambulance, and a small boy with blood on his face was passed from one man to another. Then the video showed a young injured man sitting on a stretcher and greeting the crowd. Based on this video evidence, Airwars researchers ascertained that at least five civilians, including three children, were injured in the strike.

Later posts on November 5, 2023, by Basma Al Farra, Amani Gendyaa, and Akhbar Ghaza confirmed the impact of the strike and stated that a number of civilians had been affected. Facebook user Ayyam Ghaza reported on an explosion in al-Shati, which caused deaths and injuries. There were no details on the names of the victims. This assessment will be updated if more information emerges.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
