In the afternoon of Thursday, November 9, 2023, a number of civilians were killed and wounded in a bombardment on Al-Shifa Street, west of Gaza, allegedly perpetrated by the Israeli military. There were no specific details on the victims, though this incident will be updated if more information emerges.
The news was first reported by Al Jazeera Palestine on Facebook at 4:29 p.m., announcing that “martyrs and wounded” had resulted from a purported Israeli attack on Al-Shifa Street. Multiple videos of the aftermath were captured by Al Jazeera and reposted by other agencies. In the video published by Shehab Agency at 4:42 p.m., at least three blurred-out bodies were shown lying in the street. In a similar video by Palestine TV, though equally blurry, the faces of some of the victims were visible and looked to be male. A final uncensored video reposted by multiple accounts on X and credited to “Epaimages/saber.nuraldin” showed that one of the victims, a teenager, was conscious and blinking, despite losing a leg, while another was immobile and covered in dust and blood.
While none of the sources specified the number of deceased and wounded, multiple sources referred to “injuries and martyrs,” which suggests that at least two individuals were killed and at least two were injured in the attack. This figure was corroborated by a visual examination of the number of bodies in the street, as shown in the videos of the attack.
While several sources claimed “artillery shelling” was involved in the strike, both Wafa Agency and @suharpost pointed to “aircraft”.
However, as most of the subsequent posts and reports either directly referenced or paraphrased the original Al Jazeera Palestine source, and two of the three videos of the event were attributed to Al Jazeera, this incident has been graded as a “single source claim” until more information comes to light.
Where sources identified belligerents, all sources attributed the airstrike to the Israeli military.
