Airwars Assessment

Last Updated: October 7, 2025

At least 15 civilians, including at least eight children and three women, were killed and at least 30 others, including 19 children and at least three women, were wounded by an alleged Israeli airstrike while waiting in line for nutritional supplements for children at the Altayara health clinic on Abu Hosni Street in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza during the morning of July 10, 2025. The Israeli military confirmed the airstrike in a statement to CNN, which was published on July 21, 2025.

Safa News quoted medical sources who reported at 7:54 a.m. that five people had been killed and a number of others had been wounded by an Israeli bombardment of the al-Tayyara roundabout area in Deir al-Balah. An hour later, Safa News updated their toll to 12 killed, including eight children and two women, and dozens wounded, with a final toll updated to 17 killed, most of them women and children. The Assembly of Muslim Scholars (@habdulah2), in their condemnation of the attack, identified 10 children among the 17 reportedly killed. The highest toll was reported Qassamiya Shosho who identified 18 killed, “most of them women and children”. UNICEF reported that in addition to the 15 Palestinians killed, including nine children and four women, an additional 30 others were injured, including 19 children.

According to the BBC, the strike occurred at around 7:15 a.m. at the Altayara clinic, which is run by the US-based aid group Project Hope. Women and children had been waiting outside for the clinic to open at 9 a.m. for nutrition and other health services.

Journalist Mohamed Awad provided a death toll of 15 as well as their names (one of whom has been identified as injured): Ahmed Mohammed Abu Samaha (39 years old), his daughter Yasmine Ahmed Abu Samaha (two years old), his niece Aya Ashraf Mishmish (four years old), Shafa Musa Hussein Abu Qatta (37 years old), Moataz Bellah Saif al-Din al-Bahtini (10 years old), Mohammed Hilal Abu Halul (one year old), Sama Nidal Ishaq al-Nouri (14 years old), her cousin Amir Hatem al-Nouri (5-8 years old), Amir’s brother Omar Hatem al-Nouri (9-11 years old), Mahmoud Ahmed Abu Breik (25 years old, resident of Jabalia camp, displaced), Jamal Mahmoud Badr (11 years old), Manal Ahmed Rabie Abdel Rabbo (46 years old), her daughter Fatima Riyad Muhammad Abdel Rabbo (22 years old), and Ahmed Ibrahim Diab Yassin (18 years old). Ahmed Abu Samaha’s sister and Aya’s mother Arwa Mohammed Abu Samaha (32 years old) was also injured, along with Amir al-Nouri’s brother Siraj Hatem al-Nouri.

Abd Alhadi Mslam posted the story of Ashraf Abu Qatta whose wife (likely Shafa Musa Hussein Abu Qatta) was killed and son was severely injured while waiting for the nutritional supplements: “Ashraf Abu Qatta, a resident of the Al-Ta’abin area in al-Zawaida, works for a cleaning company at the Nuseirat clinic. He only receives a salary of 700 shekels every few months” and supports a family of several people, including children. The family could barely afford flour or pasta to eat so his wife was overjoyed to hear about the nutritional supplements being given out, which their family could not afford. After heading there in the morning with her young child, his wife was killed and their child was injured, and taken to intensive care in the hospital. The Abu Qatta family mourned the loss of the daughter of their family, Shafa Abu Qatta (Umm Muhammad).

Aljazeera and the BBC spoke with Iman al-Nouri, a 32-year-old mother of five who along with her husband Hatem lost two of their children in the attack while their two-and-a-half year old child was injured and lost an eye. According to Iman, the children woke up at 7:30 in the morning crying with hunger so they went to get the nutritional supplements and “The [medical] point was still closed, so they were sitting on the pavement when suddenly we heard the sound of the strike.” Iman and her husband Hatem rushed to the scene “only to find her sons and niece lying on a donkey cart that was being used to transport casualties to the hospital because there were no ambulances.” Amir and Sama were killed immediately but Omar was still alive, and the medical staff had asked their father Hatem to donate blood but Omar died before he could be given the blood infusion. “Omar still had some breath in him. They tried to revive him. Omar needed blood, and it took them an hour to get it. They gave it to him, but it was in vain.” Iman mentioned that their mothers were injured, possibly her mother and mother-in-law, and appealed for her son Siraj to be treated abroad because of his severe injuries – “He had fractures in his skull and… according to the doctor, not just bleeding, but [a major haemorrhage] on his brain. How long can he stay like this, living on oxygen? Two are already gone. If only he could help me hold on a little longer” because the doctors are tragically unable to treat him. Speaking of her sorrow, Iman said “My children’s life was beautiful, they loved each other and played with each other, their father provided them with everything he tried to provide for them. During the war, we lived through a difficult period, and they were young children who did not understand what was happening…They wanted to grow up like any child in the world and to live a beautiful life like the rest of the world, but unfortunately, their dreams and their thinking were obliterated, and their whole sweet life was gone and buried with them.”

According to Genocide in Gaza (GiGaza), Ahmed Mohammed Abu Samaha was a couch of the Khatawat team at the al-Zawaida Youth Club. The Board of Directors of Shabab al-Zawaida Club mourned Captain Ahmed Abu Samaha, the administrative director of the 2017-2023 football team and his daughter Yasime. According to Yasser Youssef as part of his efforts to document all those killed in the sports field, Captain Ahmed was born in al-Zawaida on July 27, 1986 to a great athlete named Mohammed Abu Samaha and received a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from al Aqsa University. His career in soccer began when “He joined the youth team of the al-Zawaida Youth Club, playing as a goalkeeper. He worked as a goalkeeper coach for the second team in 2015/2016 AD. He moved to administrative work in the first and second football teams at Shabab al-Zawaida Club from 2017 to 2023. He worked as a coach for the Khatawat team at the club, alongside coach Rabah Saad, from 2018 to 2023.” Captain Ahmed can be seen in multiple pictures in athletic wear with other coaches and players. Yasime was also mourned by Zainab Abu Suwairh, who pointed out that Yasmine was as old as the war itself. Zainab “saw her the day before her martyrdom, playing innocently and childishly” adding that her “memory will remain fruitful like a jasmine tree that refuses to wither.” The post included two images of beautiful young Yasime, dressed as a princess in a pink dress and wearing a green shirt.

UNICEF’s statement on the attack documented the death of a one-year-old boy named Mohammed (likely Mohammed Hilal Abu Halul) and the serious injury of his mother Donia. According to Donia, Mohammed had just spoken his first words hours before he was killed but all she was left with now was his shoe. UNICEF also included an image of a 10-year-old girl named Reema, who was injured in the attack. Reema can be seen sitting on the hospital floor with an injury to her leg and to her hand.

Sabreen Al-Naami wrote a message to her “sister and dear friend” Arwa wishing her recovery for her injuries and patience for the loss of her daughter, her brother, and her niece.

Mahmoud Ahmed Abu Breik was mourned by Belal Alswarka whose post included an image of Mahmoud standing infront of a field smiling. The Al-Mu’tasim Billah Elementary School “A” for Boys also offered condolences to their colleague Maher Abu Breik on the death of his brother Mahmoud.

Facebook page “Al-Bureij unites us” mourned a “moon” of Al-Bureij, Ahmed Ibrahim Diab from Basin Block 6, after he was killed.

Multiple sources, including journalist Mahmoud Al-Amoudi, mentioned that some of the children waiting at the nutritional supplement center were starving and emaciated.

In a graphic video published by journalist Adly Abu Taha, women can be seen holding screaming children and the bodies of two deceased men are laying in the street next to each other. The video then shows what appears to be a family of four, all deceased and covered in blood, including two very young children. More children and women are seen lying on the pavement and bleeding, some conscious and some unconscious. A woman later says that her child’s hand has been cut off, and begs for an ambulance to come.

A child in mourning is seen crying and asking for forgiveness for his mother who was killed in the attack in a video published by Palestine TV. According to Adham Abdrabuh Saleh, the child is the son of Manal Ahmed Rabie Abdel Rabbo who was killed along with her daughter Fatima.

In a photo posted by Mohammed S. Alijla, the bodies of three children can be seen wrapped in white shrouds as family members mourn over their bodies while a video published by Nasser Alahmed shows bloodied bodies of of killed children being transported.

NBC News’ team on the ground witnessed the immense grief of those who lost loved ones: “A man kissed his small, dead nephew on the head. “I love you so much, my love,” he said, sobbing. A woman placed a glitter tulle clip into the wispy hair of the girl in the princess dress, her chubby face still smeared with blood. A mortuary technician tidied another girl’s curls that were clumped by blood, the child still in her green T-shirt printed with a cartoon panda.”

According to Safa News, those killed were waiting in line to receive a “nutritional supplement” in the city of Deir al-Balah and Mohamed Awad specified that the strikes occurred “in front of the medical point opposite al-Basheer Laundry near al-Tayyara Roundabout at the end of Abu Hosni Street” while the Assembly of Muslim Scholars  @habdulah2 referred to the location as al-Zawari junction.

NBC News and BBC News spoke with the Israeli Defense Forces, who said that the strike targeted a member of Hamas, and that it “regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals.”

NBC News quoted a statement from the Rabih Torbay, Project Hope’s president, who said “Project HOPE’s health clinics are a place of refuge in Gaza where people bring their small children, women access pregnancy and postpartum care, people receive treatment for malnutrition, and more. Yet, this morning, innocent families were mercilessly attacked as they stood in line waiting for the doors to open.”

A post from Yasser Youssef specified that the strike occurred without prior warning.

Where possible, the ages of victims have been found by cross-checking names against lists of fatalities shared online by Genocide in Gaza, which has a list of “martyrs” of Israeli forces.

Responding to a request for a statement from CNN, the Israeli military “said it was targeting a Hamas militant”. The military did not specify who the militant was, and Airwars was unable to find evidence to support this claim from open sources. The Israeli military also acknowledged claims of civilian harm, writing “The (Israel Defense Forces) is aware of reports regarding a number of injured individuals in the area. The incident is under review. The IDF regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and operates to minimize harm as much as possible”. This incident was reviewed on October 7, 2025. At the time of updating, the military had yet to make any public updates regarding the status of such review.  This incident will be updated should additional information become available.
