Airwars assessment
On the afternoon of Monday, 11th October 2024, at least one Palestinian woman was killed and four civilians were injured by the Israeli bombing of the Hafsa Al Fawqa school, within the Jabalia Camp in northern Gaza. The school had been sheltering internally displaced people, with the victims taken to the Al Awda Hospital at 16:13 according to Safa News.
While initial reports confirmed the death of one woman, the Union of OIC News Agencies indicated that the death toll may be higher, referring to a “number of civilians” killed. The victims’ identities were not shared online.
Visual documentation of the aftermath of the Israeli bombing depicted extensive destruction within the multi-story lobby of the school, with the vibrant drawings on the walls obscured by dust and debris from the explosion.
Sources differed as to the precise cause of the incident. Most accounts attribute the strike to Israeli artillery shelling, while alternative reports from Al Hajj Anwar Al Bakstani and Rania al-Khodary, via Facebook, pointed to drones dropping bombs on the refugee camp. Another Palestinian correspondent reported that Israeli warplanes caused the destruction, as underlined by the Union of OIC News Agencies.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
The incident occured in the afternoon.
