Shortly after midnight on Thursday 12th June 2025, at least 10 people were reported killed and at least 170 others, including eight women, were injured, when alleged Israeli drones attacked a group of Palestinians in the area near the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid distribution point in the vicinity of the “Netzarim Checkpoint” in the central Gaza strip.
Local sources identified the names of three people who were killed: 36-year-old Mohammed Ali Abu M’aza, 24-year-old police officer Mustafa Mazen Met and 32-year-old football player Mohammed Motawe’a al-Maghari.
Several News Outlets including Qatar News Agency, Aljazeera and Safa News, reported on the incident citing deaths and injuries as a result of Israeli bombing and gunfire, which struck those waiting for aid near Netzarim. Information about the incident first appeared shortly after midnight, with Safa News quoting al-Awda Hospital as reporting that two additional injuries brought the injury toll to 22, including 8 women. An hour after this initial report, three deaths were reported in addition to 70 injuries and another hour later the number of injuries rose to 100 and the death toll to four, all at al-Awda Hospital. Shortly before 2 a.m, Safa News reported that one of the people killed in Netzarim was taken to al-Shifa Hospital. A final toll was provided by Safa News at 8.30am that 13 people had been killed and 200 others had been injured.. Subsequent reports by Al Jazeera, Radar News and others substantiated this claim, similarly reporting 13 deaths and 200 injuries while journalist Mohamed Awad reported 10 killed and 200 injured. A video posted by Al Jazeera Egypt reported that there were 13 dead and 200 injured at al-Awda Hospital but said “the death toll is rising”.
Many of the victims were taken to al-Awda Hospital in Nuseriat to be treated for their wounds. Facebook User Meryem Ghaza, quoting a report made by al-Awda Hospital wrote, “During the past hours, we received 13 martyrs and 170 injuries, including children, women and the elderly, as a result of the Israeli occupation drones launching several bombs and live bullets towards the gatherings of citizens near the aid distribution point in the vicinity of the so-called “Netzarim checkpoint””
Friends and family wrote heartfelt messages online grieving the death of their loved ones.
In a post made on Facebook Mohammed Ali Abu M’aza’s brother Iyad Ali Abu Al-Ma’za, he was described as a man that “loved life with dignity”. He remembered how “he used to search every day for food for his children in the midst of famine”. In a photo shared on social media Mohammed is depicted as a middle aged man wearing a red jumper. A comment shared alongside the photo, in a post by by Facebook user al-Bureij, said “My dear friend Mohammed Ali Abu Al-Ma’za, may God have mercy on him, he was wronged, searching for a morsel of bread near the point of death, Netzarim. May God have mercy on you”.
Mustafa Mazen Met was born in al-Bureij Camp on 09/16/2000 and worked as a young police officer in the Ministry of Interior and National Security. He is depicted in photos on social media as a young man wearing his uniform. His father posting on Facebook described him as a supportive and dutiful son. In another photo shared on social media by user Amir Met he is depicted carrying the wounded and/or dead on a stretcher. In a Facebook post made by Sports Action Satellites, they mourned his death and celebrated a number of his football successes. Mustafa was a successful football player who joined the Central Governorate nation team. Photos shared on social media depict his and his team on the pitch.
Mohammed Motawe’a al-Maghari was from al-Maghazi refugee camp. Facebook user Khaled Al Juaidi described the “great sadness and grief” at his passing. Mohammed is described by friend and Facebook user Mona Al Mosawi as “a brother and a friend who loved laughter and life. He found peace from this difficult world and moved on to a better life”.
The other victims have not yet been identified.
