In the morning of Friday, 13 June 2025, alleged Israeli gunfire resulted in casualties in the Netzarim area near the entrance to the Bureij Refugee Camp in the central Gaza Strip. Reports indicate that at least one civilian, identified as 32-year-old Wissam Ali Shaheen, was killed, and between 12 to 15 others, including an elderly man, were injured while waiting to receive aid from the U.S.-affiliated Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
In a commemorative Facebook post, Abu Ahmad Farajullah paid tribute to Wissam Ali Shaheen, describing him as a “virtuous young man” from Nuseirat Refugee Camp and sharing a photo of him with a trimmed beard and wearing a short-sleeved shirt. The post stated that he was killed near the entrance of Bureij Refugee Camp, at the American aid distribution point. Abu Ahmad added, “He departed with a smile never leaving his face, leaving a pang in our hearts and a good impression in our memories.”
Furthermore, according to an archived Facebook post by RMoadi, Wissam lived in Camp 2 in Nuseirat and worked at the al-Ghamri shoe store and was killed by a gunshot to the head while on his way to aid centers in Netzarim, and debunked misinformation circulating claiming he was from Jenin and had been killed by an Iranian bombing in Haifa.
On Facebook, Yäqøp Šhähëën mourned the death of his cousin Wissam (Abu Karim), calling him a “martyr to the eternal gardens” and adding two of his images. In one image, he is standing in front of a cafe, wearing a long-sleeved shirt with large printed letters, and in another, he is standing on stairs, wearing a white T-shirt with black stripes and black jeans, and holding flowers in his hands.
Multiple social media sources, including @neartseast on X and Facebook user Mohamed Awad, reported that 15 injured people were brought to al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat after being shot while waiting for aid near Netzarim. Meanwhile, @PalpostN reported on X that there were 12 injuries resulting from “[Israeli] forces targeting civilian gatherings” near the aid distribution point by the Netzarim checkpoint, and X user @HamlaKaddour reported that an elderly man was injured as a result of Israeli artillery shelling targeting civilian gatherings in the same area.
A video shared on X by @Zara_2088 captured the sounds of gunfire and scenes of people who were waiting for aid, frantically fleeing as the Israeli forces opened fire near the “American Company” center in the Netzarim. The user indicated that the incident happened in the morning.
In addition, a Facebook post by Maha Yafa shared footage from the Reception and Emergency Department at al-Awda Hospital, showing blood, bandages and clothing scattered on the floor following the attack.
Wissam’s name has been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released a number of lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, the name of the victim was matched to the tenth “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza”, which was released on July 16, 2025.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the shooting to the Israeli military.
