A former mayor of the town of al-Fukhari, 71-year-old Professor Awda Muhammad Awad al-Amour “Abu Muhammad”, his 38-year-old son Muhammad Awda Muhammad al-Amour, and Maryam Abdul Rahman Hussein al-Amour were reportedly killed, and at least two women were injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike on the house of al-Amour family located in the al-Amour neighborhood in the town of al-Fukhari, southeast of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, on the morning of Thursday, 15 May 2025.
According to reports from Safa, Quds News Network, and several local sources on social media, the three members of the al-Amour family were killed when their home in the al-Amour neighbourhood was hit by an alleged Israeli airstrike.
Two women – Umm Muhammad – the wife of Mr. Awda al-Amour – and the wife of Abu Wahib al-Amour – were also injured in the incident, according to the Facebook post by Thabet al-Amour.
Where possible, the names of the victims have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the ninth “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza”, which was released on June 23, 2025.
Mr. Awda Muhammad Awad al-Amour, aged 71, was a former mayor of al-Fukhari, vice president of the Tarabin Tribe Association, and a long-time member of the Families Forum of Khan Younis Governorate. Several posts on social media describe him as a widely respected educator, tribal and community leader.
Family, friends, and local institutions publicly mourned the loss through posts on social media. Many described Mr. al-Amour as a kind, generous, and deeply committed figure, both to his people and his country.
In a mourning post for his brother, Abu Adham al-Amour wrote: “My only and beloved brother, the lofty mountain, Muhammad Awad al-Amour “Abu Muhammad”, the owner of the social fingerprint and the guardian of the fragrant biography among the people. He was unjustly martyred along with his eldest son, Muhammad. They were killed this morning in a treacherous bombing of their home. We say except what pleases God, to God we belong and to Him we shall return. And God is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs against whoever was the cause.”
Another family member, Thabet al-Amour, posted early that morning: “My dear Hajji, the good, noble, generous, role model, refuge, and support, Awda Muhammad al-Amour and his son, the good-natured Muhammad Awda al-Amour, have ascended as martyrs to the pleasure and company of God. May God accept them, honor their abode, and forgive them. We belong to God and to Him we shall return. We ask God to heal his wife, Umm Muhammad, and the wife of my uncle Abu Wahib, and all the wounded and injured of the family.”
Salim al-Waqili also posted a message of grief, describing Mr. al-Amour as a “beloved brother and friend,” known for his loyalty to both his people and his country.
“Farewell, noble man,” wrote Mohammed al-Amour in a post shared the same morning. He described Mr. al-Amour as “a man like no other… the conscious intellectual, the man of words and stances, and the unforgettable mark in every field of social and national work.”
He continued: “He never hesitated to serve the people, he was present in every issue, the first to do good, and the owner of a big heart. Abu Muhammad, you were a social man par excellence, sincere in your giving, noble in your morals, generous in your feelings, and you were always the voice of reason and wisdom in a time of confusion.”
The Gaza European Hospital, in an official statement, mourned the death of Mr. al-Amour, describing him as a “friend of the European Hospital” and a victim of “a violent bombing of the homes of the al-Amour tribe.” The hospital extended condolences to members of the al-Amour family and its own staff connected to the tribe.
Abu Mahmoud Rajila wrote on a Facebook post: “The martyrdom of a classmate from elementary school at Khaza’a Primary School in the 1960s – the esteemed teacher and educator of good memory and reputation – at the age of approximately seventy, due to the bombing of his home in the al-Amour neighborhood in the al-Fukhari area, southeast of Khan Younis.”
Many social media sources shared the images of the late Awad, a man with a grey moustache, wearing glasses, who was usually wearing a traditional Palestinian scarf.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli Military.
