Airwars Assessment
In the morning of 16 June 2025, at least two fishermen were allegedly struck and killed by Israeli gunboat fire off the coast of Gaza City, with at least four others reportedly injured.
@qudsn reported the incident on Twitter/X at 8:31 a.m., while Yaffa News Network also reported the attack. Both sources identified victims as 23-year-old fisherman Nour Rajab al-Hissi, who was killed, and fisherman Suhail Raed Saadallah, who was seriously injured, adding that a third fisherman was missing while search operations were still underway. This report, widely shared across social media, highlighted that fishing remains a primary source of livelihood for many Palestinian families, despite increasingly restricted movement during the war.
Social media user Zakaria Baker on Facebook later identified the missing fisherman as 33-year-old Zayed Taroush (Abu Jamal) and identified further injured fishermen as siblings of Nour named Mohammed Rajab al-Hissi, Rashad Rajab al-Hissi, and Alaa Rajab al-Hissi.
Mahmoud Auraq expressed his sadness at the death of Nour Rajab al-Hissi and Zayed Taroush, sharing two photos. Zayed is seen in dark denim jeans on a swing wearing a black t-shirt, and Nour is pictured in denim jeans and a black jumper, smiling into the camera. In addition, Mahmoud Abu Zanada shared a graphic photo on Facebook depicting Nour al-Hissi. The image shows him deceased, wearing a blue football shirt. As sources later mentioned Zayed as killed, he has been counted among those killed in this incident.
The names of the victims have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released a number of lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the tenth “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza”, which was released on July 16, 2025.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all attributed responsibility for the attack to the Israeli military.
