Airwars Assessment
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025 in the early morning hours, a number of civilians were reportedly killed and/or injured during an alleged Israeli airstrike on the residence of the al-Batsh family in Jabalia al-Balad in North Gaza.
All available sources, including journalists Anas al-Sharif and Hani al-Shaer, and local media outlets such as Al-Jazeera Palestine and the Palestinian Refugee Portal, stated on Facebook that the building struck in the airstrike was located in Jabalia al-Balad near the Omari Mosque and belonged to the al-Batsh family. Airwars was unable to determine the exact number of casualties, as none of the sources specified figures or confirmed whether members of the al-Batsh family survived. Journalist Hani al-Shaer referred to “a number of” casualties in his Facebook post, while Al-Jazeera Mubasher stated that “dozens of civilians” had lived in the six-story building, most of whom were killed during the airstrike. In line with Airwars’ methodology, these references have been quantified as a range of between 2 and 24 fatalities and injuries until further information about this incident becomes known.
A video attached to Al-Jazeera Mubasher’s article depicts the aftermath of the building’s collapse. Two heavily injured civilians are seen being carried to an ambulance. A large number of civilians and search-and-rescue personnel are attempting to pull civilians from the rubble. The people appear visibly distressed and covered in dust. The video shows multiple groups working at various points of entry into the building. As it is still dark, torches are being used for visibility.
Al-Jazeera Palestine and Khway Alshuhadaa also posted on Facebook regarding missing persons presumed to be trapped under the rubble. The images of the collapsed building by Mohammed al-Harthani attached to the Al-Jazeera post also clearly show the level of destruction.
Another video, posted on Facebook by the Voice of Palestine Radio and recorded in daylight, shows the complete destruction of the multi-story building and emphasizes the size of the structure, underscoring the potential number of occupants at the time of the early-morning strike.
While most sources described the incident as a bombardment, some specified that the strike was conducted by an aircraft or the air force.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all attributed the airstrike to the Israeli military.
