Airwars Assessment

Last Updated: December 19, 2025

On March 18, 2025, at least five members of the Mazid family were reportedly killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike on their home in the al-Hadba area of Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip.

Sources, including Safa News, @AsmaaKhSalman1, and multiple family members, confirmed the names and relationships of those killed in the strike. Among the victims were Salwa Mohammed Mohammed Mazid “Thabit”, a 52-year-old mother; her 28-year-old son, Omar Jameel Abdel Qader Mazid; her 24-year-old daughter, Hanan Jamil Abdul Qader Mazid; Hana’s husband, 35-year-old Muhammad Suleiman Ali al-Diraawi; and their six-year-old son, Sohaib al-Diraawi. According to the Facebook post by Marwan Mazyad, Omar’s wife and daughter were also killed in the strike, but other sources did not mention that. Their names and ages are unknown at the time of writing.

Where possible, the names of the victims have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released a number of lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, the name of Muhammad was matched to the eighth “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza”, which was released on March 24, 2025, and the name of his son – to the ninth “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza” released on June 23, 2025. The ages of remaining victims have been found by cross-checking names against lists of fatalities shared online by Shireen Monitor, an organisation that has a list of “Martyrs of Palestine” from 2023 onward.”

According to Gigaza and Safa News, the Israeli airstrike hit the Mazid family home, causing complete collapse, killing all five victims instantly. No injuries were reported, though the home was said to be sheltering displaced civilians.

A widely shared image posted by Muhammed Shaqoura Abu Salama showed five white body bags lined side by side on the ground, surrounded by a crowd of mourners. The post referred to “my aunt Umm Omar #Mazyad and her sons and grandchildren,” confirming the family connection and the generational loss. The image was described with reverence and grief, capturing the communal mourning.

In another image, Omar Jameel Abdel Qader Mazid was shown in a photograph taken during his life – a young man with short black hair and a trimmed beard, smiling while standing in a field, wearing a dark green sweater. He was remembered by his sister, Islam, in a deeply emotional post as her “brother, beloved, friend, and support,” expressing heartbreak over his sudden death and the bond they shared. He had “never made [her] sad in his life” and indeed was often a source of joy: “The last time you visited me, we laughed so hard, and by God I do not laugh from the bottom of my heart except with you.”

A photograph of Salwa Mohammed Mohammed Mazid and her daughter Hanan Jamil Abdul Qader Mazid together showed them embracing outside a building. Hanan, in a green dress and light-coloured hijab, killed her mother on the head, while Salwa, wearing a navy blue dress and hijab, held a bouquet of flowers. Sohaib stands in front of them. Colleagues from Yaffa Hospital in Deir al-Balah expressed condolences for Salwa and her family. She was described by her daughter as someone who had “never hurt anyone.”

Islam remembered Hanan as her “partner in everything.” The two had been close; Islam would not “open [her] heart to anyone but [Hanan].” Whenever Islam was upset, Hanan comes and changes the atmosphere. All the sweet memories are with you.”

An image of Muhammad Suleiman Ali al-Diraawi, shared by Gigaza, showed him seated on a couch in a light-coloured shirt, with a short beard and cropped hair. Posts by relatives referred to him affectionately as “Abu Sohaib,” confirming his identity as the father of the young child killed alongside him. Sources conflict on Muhammad’s age, with Shireen’s List and Ministry of Health list reporting him as 35, and Gigaza claiming 48.

While no further details were provided regarding the precise circumstances of the strike or type of munitions used, the consistent framing across all sources – such as references to the “Zionist bombing” – strongly implicated Israeli forces as responsible for the strike.

All sources that identified a belligerent attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
