On 18 March 2025, a 38-year-old man, Khaled Yassin Yousef Joda (Abu Abdullah), was killed in an alleged Israeli attack on Rafah or Gaza City.
The location of Khaled’s death remains unknown or contested among local sources. Khaled’s name was mentioned by the Facebook account for the Beach Camp (al-Shati) as among those whose bodies arrived at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis from Rafah on March 18. However, according to his profile on the website Genocide in Gaza, he was killed in Gaza City by an Israeli airstrike.
Friends and family took to social media to lament the loss of their loved one. Several mourners mentioned how Khaled was a “young” and “decent” man. Others shared religious messages as they consoled the bereaved family, in these, they asked that God protect them and “grant [them] patience in the loss of the kind, gentle and dutiful man.” Many shared the epitaph that “to God we belong and to Him we shall return” as they consoled each other over the loss of their loved one.
In the image shared by Mohammad Abu Labda on Facebook, Khaled is seen sitting on the floor dressed in a blue sports suit.
Khaled’s name has been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released a number of lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, the name of the victim was matched to the eighth “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza”, which was released on March 24, 2025.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to the Israeli military.
