Airwars Assessment
On Tuesday March 18, 2025, a child was killed during an alleged Israeli attack in Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip.
According to the limited available sources, 11-year-old Obaida Mohammad Mahmoud Muammar, was killed.
Facebook user Jolian expressed his grief in a post, noting the immense loss the Abu Muammar family had suffered, having had to say goodbye to hundreds of relatives since the beginning of the war.
Very little information exists regarding the incident, including its location.
Obaida had been added to the list of casualties of March 18, 2025 by Shireen Monitor, a Palestinian organisation documenting names of killed civilians. The Monitor reported Obaida was killed in Khan Younis. Obaida’s name has also been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the eighth ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on March 24, 2025
None of the local sources reporting on this specific casualty attributed the strike to a belligerent, Obaida’s name was found in Shireen Monitor and the Palestinian Ministry of Health list of fatalities, both of which specifically attribute those included to actions by the “Israeli aggression”, therefore this incident has been graded as a “likely” Israeli strike.
