Airwars Assessment
At dawn on 18 March 2025, three members of the Al-Titi family were killed and at least three others were injured as a result of an alleged Israeli airstrike on their family home in Gaza City.
53-year-old Hossam Hassan Ali al-Titi (Abu Fadi), his wife, 46-year-old Hajjah Souzan al-Titi (Umm Fadi) and their 17-year-old daughter Mona Hossam Hassan al-Titi were all reportedly killed. Multiple sources reported that three of Hossam and Souzan’s sons were also injured in the airstrike, one of whom was reportedly in serious condition at the time of reporting.
“Genocide in Gaza” reported that the family home was “hous[ing] a number of internally displaced persons in Gaza City” at the time of the strike.
Hossam was working as an UNRWA teacher at the time of his death. Prior to working as a teacher, Hossam had worked for 20 years for the American broadcaster, ABC News. According to the website, “Journalists Killed By Israel,” Hossam had worked as a sound engineer for ABC and had left in 2014 to become a teacher.
One of their surviving sons, Abdelhadi Hossam al-Titi on Facebook, referred to Hossam as “the honorable professor,” to his mother Souzan as “the light of my heart,” and to his sister Mona as “the joy of our eyes and home.” Hossam’s brother, Ali, similarly remembered him as “beloved,” and someone he considered the “apple of [his] eye.”
The family’s neighbour, Mohammed Hussam Okal, remembered Hossam as a “dear neighbour” and “virtuous educator,” asking that “God […] grant patience to the hearts of your children after you.” Another friend, Ahmed Harb, asked for “a thousand mercies and light upon [the] soul” of his “dear and beloved friend,” Hossam.
Hossam, Souzan and Mona’s names were matched with the Ministry of Health lists of fatalities in Gaza. Some discrepancy, however, was found in regards to Hossam’s age, with the MoH recording him as 53, and Palestinian Center for the Protection of Journalists as 46.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to ships belonging to the Israeli Military.
