Two men, Aziz Talat al-Mabhouh and Wissam Ibrahim Thabet, were reported killed while others were injured by an alleged Israeli airstrike near residences opposite the Kamal Adwan Hospital during the early hours of 18 December, 2024.
An initial report emerged at 2:05 from Safa News reporting injuries, which was corrected to “martyrs and wounded” several hours later, at 7:23. Multiple other sources mentioned “injuries” but did not specify how many.
Wissam Ibrahim Thabet, a paramedic, was remembered with a photograph showing him, clad in a medical vest, carrying an infant. His colleagues, in a memorial post, remembered him as “wise”.
A relative, Kari Abdulla Thabet, sharing the same photograph, announced that Wissam was her cousin and, on behalf of the family: “we are proud of him”. Numerous sources shared prayers, asking that “Allah forgive him, have mercy on him [and] pardon him.”
Aziz’s grandfather, Abu Ramez Mohd, announced “the martyrdom of [his] grandson” and asked that “God have mercy on him and grant him a spacious place in Paradise and in the Gardens of Eternity”. The Facebook account for the Jabalia Camp specified Aziz as a resident of Jabalia – a “son of the camp” – and shared a photograph of him in a black shirt and cap.
Hannaa Mahmoud also shared remembrances. One of at least three brothers, Aziz had lost his brother Qusay and niece, Rania “without saying goodbye to them”. His brother Yousef al-Mabhouh was specified by Hannaa Mahmoud as “a prisoner”.
Ahmed H Shaquora, a close friend, likened Aziz to a brother. He shared a photograph of the two of them, in a golden glow, smiling at the camera.
Um Osama remembered her brothers “Qusay and Abdul Aziz [who are] waiting for me in heaven”. She shared a photograph that Aziz had shared in remembrance of her brother Qusay, drawing a comparison between Aziz’s memorial for his brother and the one Um Osama was now writing: “This is what my brother Abdul Aziz published in mourning for my brother Qusay. And here he is joining him in the gardens of bliss, my Lord, let them enjoy its bliss”.
Facebook user Eid Sabah claimed that a “reconnaissance missile” was used. Sources indicated that homes across from the Hospital were hit, with Safa News specifying that “3 houses” were “target[ted]”.
Where sources indicated a belligerent, all pointed to the Israeli military.
